Feathers Fly at the Annual Pillow Fight

Wall Street hasn't been a fun place as of late, even the Panda residing there is sad, so the NewMindSpace crew brought their annual Pillow Fight to the Financial District today. Feathers flew, George Washington looked on, and even the cops seemed to enjoy it.

Including one of the guy who ended up causing it to be shut down early.. Wearing #52 towards the end of the set..

Think of all the poor pillows sacrificed on the altar of hipsterism. Oh, the humanity! And the number of children around the world who don't even have pillows.

don't be a tease, what cause it to shut down early?

The annual pillowfight...where the city's photobloggers congregate to take hundreds of the exact same photo.

Even more photos, including the poor girl the cops decided to arrest: http://www.flickr.com/photos/p_f_a_u/sets/72157616357513998/

Hope Newmindspace helps pay for her lawyer...

completely unnecessary arrest aside, it was an enjoyable way to spend an evening. is there a flickr group up yet?

The cops don't like pillow fights -- in Detroit

"The Detroit News reports that police at Campus Martius Park prevented the feathery fight Saturday by disarming pillow-toting participants. The bout was part of a worldwide event organized on social networking Web sites."

Pity no one used a pillowcase technique a la Sean Penn in Bad Boys.

LOL! No one I know knows that movie. The original non-Will-Smith Bad Boys. Good reference. And OW!

Anyone know why the girl got arrested and what #52 did to get the whole thing shut down.

Yeah, what happened with #52 and the arrested girl?

Ah number 52... I saw this guy and his group of rowdy jackasses try and enter on Broad from the downtown side. They were 15 minutes late, hooting and hollering like they were going to a wrestling match.

Should have known.

Anyway, nuts to anyone who thinks this is a stupid, boring, pointless event. Never do I see full grown adults, children and all the inbetweens light up with wonderment but when great things like this happen.

Nice! I won the pool! I had picked "2" as the number of messages it would take before someone attributed this to "hipsters."

I am disappointed that the NYPD let this hipster shenanigan go on without more arrests and headbustings! I was down in the FiDi and almost got a mouthful of feathers! Cops should have their batons ready and start busting the heads!

Why do you have to be such a killjoy. Loosen up, you prick. It's a great use of otherwise deserted public space.

It's a great waste of time by adults acting like little kids. Time to grow up. College days are over.

Perhaps you want to clean the mess off the bike path blocks away from this, that @17 noted. These 'adults' apparently felt their parents or you would clean it up.

that guy in the gas mask looks so hot...but he's a yuppie...i feel so dirty for so many reasons.

That explains the pillowy mess today on the bike path just below the South St Seaport.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. A pillow fight? Really?

Past events, they cleaned up after themselves.

Don't know if this one was different.

What's with the hate? Gothamist reported on the past two or three and you guys didn't chime in then.

Not always. I've been going to the San Francisco one for a couple of years and I bring my old foam pillow, have some fun, and then bring it home none the worse for wear and sleep on it.

Bringing a feather pillow is a really bad idea because not only will it destroy the pillow, but yeah, it'll make a huge mess and everyone gets feathers filling their mouths. Not cool.
