Recessionistas: Topshop (Slightly) Opens Doors!

The British are coming! Surely you've heard of Topshop (and Topman) by now, it's like H&M but with 100% more Kate Moss (in fact, she'll be helping to officially open their flagship U.S. store tomorrow at 11 a.m.). We stopped by their 25,000 square foot Broadway outpost for a press peek earlier today, but it seems the store is a bit camera shy. We did manage to grab a shot when the door cracked open however, and as you can see, the shop is heavily adorned in sunflowers. Interesting.

Bad economy or not, Topshop owner Philip Green is confident of the store's success; he told Bloomberg News, "You’ve seen a few retailers collapse, but I think the big people will ride out the storm. People haven’t stopped shopping. The young fashion market has still remained pretty resilient during these difficult times.

For the fashionistas on a budget out there, set up camp tonight because Glamour reports they'll be handing out free goody bags and gift cards when the doors open tomorrow. And here are Topshop's press photos of the interior, via Racked.

    I love TOPSHOP. I'm glad there's a shop in NYC :D

I like to think of it more as giving backhanded compliments really really badly. I didn't actually go in, I just saw like 3 people outside snapping pictures trying to start a commotion.

Stopped by, it was stupid and the Grand Opening was rather subdued. Even Uniqlo and Muji had more hype. Looks like another Mexx, Mango fiasco.

I have to hand it to you. You have an amazing talent of finding a way to complain about everything. Interestingly, I never thought of you as the type to even feel the urge to attend a retail fashion store opening.
