A lawyer for Peter Madoff, brother of admitted multi-billion dollar Ponzi man Bernard Madoff, tried to get a NY state appeals court to overturn the freeze on his assets. Peter Madoff worked for brother Bernie's investment firm, but has not been charged with any wrongdoing (though the fed are investigating). His lawyer said, "My client can’t spend a dime, he can’t take a subway ride, he can’t buy a loaf of bread, pay his attorneys." Well, maybe he should have looked a little closer at his brother's business goings on! Bloomberg News reports that today's attempt revealed Peter Madoff agreed to a "voluntary" asset freeze in December: He was given "$10,000 a month for expenses... allow[ing him] to pay his mortgage and required him to provide prosecutors with a receipt for any purchase of more than $150." Ultimately, though, the court decided today to keep the freeze on Peter.

awwwwwww
That's almost the saddest thing I've heard since the fall of 2001.
Argh! This entire family should be drowned.
His lawyer said, "My client can’t spend a dime, he can’t take a subway ride, he can’t buy a loaf of bread, pay his attorneys."
You could chose to work pro bono. . .
"My client can’t spend a dime, he can’t take a subway ride, he can’t buy a loaf of bread, pay his attorneys."
Really?!
Except for that last thing about "pay[ing] his attorneys," which really tells too much about the speaker's motives), this line should set off the BS alarm of any judge.
As Jerry Seinfeld would say... "That's a shame."
Oh, and I think this line is one of the dirtiest things Jen Chung has written: Ultimately, though, the court decided today to keep the freeze on Peter.
$10K/month...hmm, sounds like the only thing he can't really do is pay a bunch of lawyers.
Can't take a subway or buy a loaf of bread? Maybe he traverse the city on a discarded bicycle with freegans for free food.
Nice try attempting to humanize your inverse-celebrity client for the mass pool of potential jurors, Mr. Shitbag of "Shitbag and Scumbag, Attorneys At Law". Whatever this piece of felonious garbage can or cannot afford is of what value to who? His victims who are selling their houses, cars and priceless judaica just to eat?
Well, if current trends continue, $10K/month won't buy a MetroCard anymore.
Cry me a freaking river. Wonder how that 90-year old in Florida who lost every cent to these cretins gets to his new job every day---bagging groceries. Is there really one person left who believes Madoff's closest family members were NOT in collusion on this scam? Freeze, then sieze their assets, then dump their sleazy asses in the jug for a few decades.
Or he's not riding the train because it would turn into a NY vs. Madoff cage fight blood bath.
