Federal Stimulus Boost For NYC Infrastructure Projects

2009_03_bklynbr.jpg Mayor Bloomberg, Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand announced that $261 million in federal stimulus money will go towards NYC infrastructure projects. The projects getting direct stimulus funds include rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge (widening ramps, painting) and of the St. George Ferry Terminal ramps and upgrading the pedestrian bridge from East Harlem to Ward's Island. Bloomberg said, "The federal stimulus dollars mean that we can move projects that would have been on the chopping block and get shovels in the ground quickly -- putting thousands of people to work and rebuilding our infrastructure." You can also track the projects with the city's new stimulus project tracker.

This is great! Now how about bloomie getting some of that $$$ for the MTA's infrastructure!

Exactly! Why not use the stimulus money to restore the third track for the Second Avenue Subway or the 10th Avenue station for the 7 train extension? Why waste it on a pedestrian bridge or the decrepit ferry terminal?

$261 million wouldn't even cover construction of a single station along the SAS or 7 extension.

I sure hope some of that money for the Brooklyn Bridge goes to enhancing those dozen or so signs announcing the "Ari Halberstam Memorial Ramp".

Maybe we can add a few more.

/those/ are the projects getting priority money? when a rain-filled pothole blew out my brand new tire and the bridge on HRD southbound has like offroading? Srsly? o_O;;

only 261 million? That seems quite a miserly amount, in fact.
