Remember that festival over in Liberty State Park, NJ last summer featuring a little band called Radiohead? Well, it's back. All Points West is embarking on its second year and they've just announced their initial lineup (which now includes comedy). Looks like the East Coast may have officially gotten its Coachella, and you might be headed to Jerz for a few nights.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at noon, you know where, and pre-fees they're a pretty reasonable price. Single day tickets are $89 and 3-day passes are $199. Last year we could only make it through days one and two, but that really had to do more with Jack Johnson taking Radiohead's place as headliner on the final night.
If you're worried about getting there, allegedly festival producers have ironed out some kinks since last year. "They have worked closely with their partners at NJ Transit to improve light-rail service and capacity. As an added value for 2009, festival goers who choose to travel to the site utilizing the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line can ride for free throughout the weekend... The frequency and size of the ferryboats will increase at a reduced price for festival attendees.... The producers have also worked with their partners at Liberty State Park to improve the fan experience in the beer gardens." Phew!

I can't wait to drink booze in the muddy, fenced off holding cell, limited to 5 beers a day.
*gasp* Tool!! Oh I hope they play the city or close by in Jerz so I don't have to pay 89 f*cking dollars just to see them.
Tool is the only reason I'm interested, too. If Beasties and Tool were the same day, it might be worth $89, but otherwise notsomuch.
None of the Saturday bands seem to make sense together. Friday could be worth it. And Sunday could be worth it if you're into the poor man's Radiohead.
they were the poor man's radiohead 8 years ago. Now they are the poor man's U2. And not joshua tree U2 either. MOre like zooropa U2.
Last year was awesome except for the long wait for the return trip ferry which fucked it up! I'd go if there was radiohead again but coldplay's last album sucked. If they put the yeah yeah yeah's on sunday it might be the deal maker but they won't. and wtf at college humor? I can just imagine them trying to be funny and 90% of the people will be like "what did they say?" cause I couldn't hear the bands talking most of the time cause of the reverb. Also, last year was really good cause it was mild weather. If it's over 90 it will be hell.
Agreed. The short line was hell also. Friday is full of 3 pretty okay headliners, and a ton of shitty small bands. Sunday is full of a bunch of decent small bands, and shitty headliners. I see what they did there...
Yeah, the thing to do, which worked like a charm for me, is take your bike on the Path to Grove Street and ride from there. It's less than ten minutes from the station to the gates, and a nice ride through the park. Last year I got back home to Brooklyn in an hour.
Seasick Steve > MGMT
Last year was an overpriced mess that was saved by Radiohead. No chance I pay that kind of money for this flimsy line-up of bands who are playing all the summer festivals and hit NY regularly.
these types of massive concerts provide music in they same way that mega-churches provide spirituality.
It may not be the official route to get to the concert, but taking the PATH to Grove Street and walking from there saves the aggravation of dealing with the Light Rail. Its only about 12 blocks from the Grove Street Station to the entrance of Liberty State Park via Jersey Avenue.
quite a lot of money to pay for 3 or 4 bands i want to see scattered over saturday and sunday....
another tip might be to not buy tickets at all. Last year, I noticed that the Fence was only ten feet high and people who were just biking Liberty state park could hear and see the concert just fine on the outside. They were pretty close too. So it's better to stay on the periphery. you could buy your own drinks and snacks, and could leave whenever you wanted.
