NYU Kids Convince Newspapers Their Pot Spot was Magical

2009_03_narnia.jpg A pot smoking den inside an NYU dorm named 'Narnia' has gone up in smoke after drawing a little too much attention to itself. The alcove inside a Hayden Hall suite that saw up to 50 people in a given day enter it to get high was moved elsewhere when university officials read about in last week's Washington Square News, where students bragged about a spot that provided a sense of community the school didn't (not to mention a safe haven for oral sex). The paper talked to one freshman who smoked pot for the first time inside the room adorned with Christmas lights, a set of bongos, a stuffed raven and a poster of Prince Caspian. He told them, “I’ve learned a lot about life through marijuana and Narnia has facilitated my marijuana usage." That freshman ended up donating a 32-inch plasma television, an Xbox 360, and more than a dozen games to the space. In its wake, one junior told the Post, "Places like Narnia became social centers for students looking for a thrill. I bet student morale will plummet now that it's gone."

Say, these aren't those "Take Back NYU" Morons??

No, they would never support Microsoft and play xbox.

".. provided a sense of community the school didn't."

"Places like Narnia became social centers for students looking for a thrill. I bet student morale will plummet now that it's gone."

Christ. Somebody hook these kids up on the top floor of 3rd North so they have a long way to think on the jump down.

Oh boy. Now I'm going to get in trouble for bringing up NYU's way of driving kids out the window. But when you're making 'em pay what they do to live in a city where nobody wants 'em and for a mediocre education at a university that doesn't care, what'd you expect??

I'm going to add to my previous comment, to clear up the bitterness:

i. It's not about the pot. It's about NYU being the school it is and not providing any sense of community which leads to press like this

AND

ii. idiots who think that crawling into the magical world of "Narnia" is the only way they'll find community. It's god damn New York City, c'mon now..

I totally agree. But I am a biased Columbia student/native New Yorker. I remember visiting NYU senior year of high school and thinking, "How many of these kids would last in this city if they weren't here for college?"

Breaking news! Some college kids smoke pot! Sometimes they do it while in the company of other college kids, who are also smoking pot! More as it develops.

Well, at least these brats have something to keep them company through the next twenty years of economic oblivion. See ya on the other side, Bongo.

"I bet student morale will plummet"

I do hope he doesn't mean 'plummet' as in 'from the roof of the Bobst library.'

Good to see that higher education is first & foremost on the minds of these imbeciles.

See how much New York Cities and State(s) can save on taxes if Marijuana were decriminalized, then sign the petition:

Change we can engage in...

This is a joke, right?

NYWho?

This is why NYU kids will never be taken seriously, especially when they protest for nonsense like they did a month or so ago. That's it... April 1, 2009, i am officially announcing as "NYU Student Appreciation Day". I think April Fools days couldn't be a more appropriate day for these rich drug addicts, I mean students

breaking news, students smoke pot. gothamist, you've really fallen pretty low on this one.

Pretty sure the point isn't to mock the pot smokage, but the dumbass publicizing of said smokage.

let me revise, breaking news, 18 year old kids smoke pot and do dumb things
