Donald Trump To Madoff's Family: You're Guilty!

2009_03_dtrum.jpg Real estate developer Donald Trump has a new business advice book out, which means he's happy to chat with the NY Times Magazine's Deborah Solomon about various financial news. He blasts, AIG (but does point out many bankers didn't cause all the turmoil), says his real estate business is just fine ("Most of my jobs were finished prior to the depression, as I affectionately call it.") and gives his thoughts on Bernard Madoff. Trump claims the Ponzi schemer asked him to invest with him, to which he replied, "No thanks, I can lose my own money." The Donald also thinks Madoff's relatives and associates were in on it: "The wife should be put in jail on the other side of the hallway from him. I think she’s guilty, his sons are guilty, and I think that many of the people in the firm are guilty. He had 16,000 clients, and he’s one man. What, he’s going to send out every envelope every week?" He also tells Solomon, "extreme luxury will never be out of fashion" and "You should make this interview a five-page deal. Because of me, everybody will read it."

Did Donald Trump mention his shadow backer and real estate puppet master, Li Ka Shing? That Hong Kong billionaire, who is worth slightly more than Bloomberg since his shares in Hutchinson Whampoa ( which he founded ) took a shit in the stock crash, is the real force behind any success Trump has claimed since he nearly went belly up in the early Nineties. Mr Li's story is far more inspiring and valuable than Trump's tales of spoon-fed riches. But I digress: Trump has shown a deft touch with a few golf courses.

Why does Gothamist feature this financial failure? The NYT is deperate for newsprint and published pages, apparently, trying to boost its ad rates. But surely Gothamist has other more important stories.

Even more arrogant than the last sentence of this post is the last sentence of the interview:

    NYT: What’s your I.Q.?

Trump: Very high. They don’t get any higher.

Jen, Can't we have a one-year moratorium on reports about this jerk, who inherited his real estate holdings from his old man? Please. Pretty please.

Yeah, no more of this for the Gothamist. Stick to stories about getting kicked in the nuts.

Just when I think nobody could actually be as arrogant as he seems to be, he says something like the final sentence.
