Police are searching for two suspects in a robbery that turned deadly in Crown Heights on Wednesday night. The Utica Deli's owner Mohammed Mansoor Abuzaid, 50, and his son Abdul, 18, were killed in the basement of the store.
Two other workers and a customer were also taken to the basement. A worker, who was also taken to the basement, said that he and the Abuzaids tried to fight back. The worker told the Daily News, "During the fight, one of them hit me in the forehead," and he fell to the floor as the robbers also fired at them. He continued to play dead until the suspects left.
A neighboring store's worker told the NY Times that the Abdul, who immigrated from Yemen 25 years ago, had been robbed before, and that's perhaps why they fought back. Police spokesman Paul Browne said, "Every individual case is different. We don’t want people to put themselves in jeopardy. On the other hand, people have escaped what may have been serious harm or death by resisting. So it really depends, and it is very hard to second-guess anybody’s actions."
However, it seems like the robbers left empty-handed. No arrests have been made and police released surveillance video from the bodega on Utica Boulevard that shows two men entering the store.

Oh, you should have seen yesterday, when this story broke. Snoopy and whitecastlerock, among others, were laughing it up. Jackasses are a dime a dozen on Gothamist.

Everything else in Snoopy's linked-to post is unquestionably true. The problem is that "progressive" liberals are just as incapable of acknowledging double-standards as their supposed "conservative" nemesis. The longer blatant double standards such as the long list supplied by Snoopy exist, the more Snoopys there will be. Liberals have NO humility. They do no wrong. They turn the other cheek when facts get int he way of their worldview, etc. You all live on the other side of the same coin that Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. are on. At least own up to that much.

Of course calling a white person a cracker, honky, etc. is racist, just as calling all men assholes is sexist. I don't know any progressive liberals who would say otherwise. There are no double standards from this progressive liberal, anyway.
If the United Negro College Fund, Martin Luther King Day, BET, etc offend you it's because you don't believe that we have a history of racism and inequality in this country. We do. It's unfortunate.

I think you're confused. I don't agree with Snoopy in the least and never do on any topic.
Snoopy's argument basically boils down to "Well, he's doing it, too!" I thought most people got beyond that by the time they're eight. Even if many blacks do practice racism (and sad to say that many do), two wrongs don't make a right. I would hope someone who's been around six decades like Snoopy would have tried to be a better person than the next guy, but then again, looking at his comments, that's obviously not true. Every time a crime is reported on Gothamist, his predictable comment is, "Description of perp?" Which is his unsubtle code for, "Black guy, right?" And then fellow racists like whitecastlerock come in and laugh at Snoopy's great wit.

Sadly, after the Wendy's Massacre, if an armed thief takes you to a back room or a basement one has to assume they're going to kill you.
Agreed. It's best not to play hero if someone is robbing you, but if they decide to move you to someplace secluded, like the basement or back alley, then it's time to fight back.
Not necessarily. There've been quite a few cases where the robbers just locked up or tied up the employees. Besides, the owner and his son tried to fight back before they were led down to the basement, not after. But they lost the fight.
If someone with a gun tried to corral myself and my coworkers into a cooler or a basement, the thing to do is fight like hell. They tell you otherwise but you fight like hell. I'd rather die trying to end the bullshit than be a compliant corpse.
Note that the news articles say up to three other people were also forced into the basement and survived. So it appears that execution wasn't the foregone conclusion in this situation, otherwise they would all be dead.
There is a video and they are black, but what does that matter? They were in Crown Heights. DUH. I hope they find these heartless animals quickly
Was it worth it, these two assholes taking these lives? For what? I really, really hope they nab 'em. And throw the book at them!
