Hardly content to let Senator Chuck Schumer hog the rainbow-colored spotlight, Mayor Bloomberg last night reiterated his support for gay marriage, and urged the state legislature to legalize it. Speaking at the annual dinner of the Manhattan LGBT Community Center, Bloomberg told the crowd, "I think you see that the tide is turning, that support is mounting. It’s still not going to be easy. There are people who don’t agree, but it’s incumbent on all of us to explain to people that this really is a basic right that people should have, and I think that it’s time for Albany to set politics aside and do the right thing, and pass the gay marriage bill." Bloomberg vowed to "testify" in Albany for any bill that comes up for a vote. But Gay City News editor Paul Schindler tells the Daily News that because Senate Democrats hold such a narrow majority, "We need Republican votes to pass this. [Bloomberg] gave a lot of money to the Republican state Senate campaign last year. When the gay community gets politicians to say they're on our side, the next question is, How soon?"

Oh, please!!! Bloomberg is just looking for the gay vote in November.
Paul Schindler is way too vague: who exactly is the "we" who gave money to the Republican State Senate campaign? The Gay City News? I sure as hell hope not. The gay community at large? Ditto.
Okay, the Daily News just emailed me to say they're correcting that quote Schindler gave them. It wasn't "We" gave a lot of money, but "He," meaning Bloomberg.
"We gave a lot of money to the Republican state Senate campaign last year. When the gay community gets politicians to say they're on our side, the next question is, How soon?"
Well, if you're waiting on Republican support for gay rights, you might as well get comfortable because its gonna be a while.
"support is mounting"
tee-hee...
For the longest time I had thought that Bloomberg himself was a fan of 'riding the rainbow'.
I have been given several names of men Bloomberg has been involved with. They're not people that are totally unknown either. When will Bloomberg come out of the closet?
I hope he does the world a favor and stays in the closet. However, if he thinks it will ensure his re-election, he'll definitely come out.
Of course Bloomberg supports gay marriage. As the illegitimate child of Joe E. Brown, he can relate! After all..

..nobody's perfect!
Where in the Constitution does it state that anyone has a right to marriage?
Next thing you know, people are going to march in the streets claiming they have a "right" to break the law! -wait, illegal aliens did that last year.
The real issue here is state's rights. Marriages need to be respected across state lines, so marriage laws have to be resolved federally.
Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don't choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. If you can, sorry, but you are not heterosexual, you are bi-sexual. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that homosexuality is not a choice. Sexual orientation is generally a biological trait that is determined pre-natally, although there is no one certain thing that explains all of the cases. "Nurture" may have some effect, but for the most part it is biological.
This was taken from another poster that shows why we need to legalize gay marriage. If you don't feel for this person after reading it, you simply aren't human.
I am not sure what our President thinks of this dicission but coming from a poor family and knowing what discrimination is all about I would assume he would not care if "Gays" have equal rights. The whole reason why they are asking for rights to be considered married is from the same reason why I would be for it. My own life partner commited suicide in our home with a gun to his heart. After a 28 year union I was deprived to even go his funeral. We had two plots next to each other. But because we did not have a marriage cirtificate "(Legal Document)" of our union his mother had him cremated and his ashes taken back to Missouri where we came from. That is only one example how painful it is. His suicide tramatized me so much and her disregard for my feelings only added to my heartach. That happened on March 21 of 2007 and I still cannot type this without crying for the trauma I have to endure each day. Oh did I mention I am in an electric wheelchair for life? Yes I am and it is very diffacult to find another mate when you are 58 and in a wheelchair.
