Teens Arrested in Hell's Kitchen Stabbing

2009_03_hkstab.jpg That stabbing on Ninth Avenue and 50th Street mentioned on the Gothamist Newsmap yesterday? Well, it turns out an 18-year-old student at the High School of Graphic Communication Arts was stabbed and attacked just a block away from the school by four other teens. According to 1010 WINS, "Witnesses say he was stabbed in the torso and hit with a two-by-four during a fight near a deli at the corner of 50th Street and 9th Avenue. Witnesses believe the fight was over a girl." And besides two-by-fours and a knife, sticks were also being brandished in the 3:30 p.m. attack! The teen is in stable condition at Cornell Medical Center; four teens, from ages 15 to 18, were arrested on charges including gang assault, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

I am a student at Graphics as well. The maturity level of the youth today is diminishing however the comments displayed here are absolutely no better. To spout that the kids are trash and so forth and so on, what right do you have? This was a horrible event that happened, albeit some kids do not know how to contain themselves in a resectable manner but please do not lump us all together. Many would not even so much as bother a senior citizen let alone partake in such heinous activities. I apologize if any students have done so but please keep an open mind when thinking of us. The school itself has strived, coming a long way from the previous years. You are entitled to your opinion however think twice before you begin bashing anyone especially in a generalized aspect.

ig o to this school and none of you understand how it is this sort of thing happens everyday and trust me it isnt everyone so dont judge and say that were a bunch of hoodlums because i indeed am one of those kids who hangs around with friends we do not start any problems with anyone and are mostly cool with some of the cops and security that is there so please do not judge us just live with it school systems are corrupted anyway and gang violence happens everywhere in over 80% of schools these kind of acts happen.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. These kids hang around at will in the mornings when they are suppose to be in class and after school outside all the deli's and McDonald's in the neighborhood. NONE of them live in the area! The police, with pressure from local neighborhood associations, use to be move these kids along to prevent this sort of thing from happening, but in the last year there have been less police assigned to this task and the ones that are assigned just hang around like the students and bullshit with each other outside the Duane Reade drugstore on 49th and 9th. I'm sure they'll step up their efforts now, at least for a couple weeks. But wait until the warm weather comes back. You think they acted like animals now... just wait!!!

I do want to say that not all the kids are bad and that most just want to get to school and home as quickly as possible. It's always a handful that cause these problems. Unfortunately, they are not being dealt with by the police, the school system and most importantly their parents.

Like I said ... just wait for the temps to start getting into the 70's and there will be more incidents if they are continued to allow to just hang out instead of make their way home to their own neighborhoods.

I saw a group of these kids on this same corner yell and harass an older man who was walking by them because one of the kids bumped into them. They are a classy bunch.

yea i heard about this through a friend a believe it or not they got the wrong people the person who did it doesnt wanna come clean cause he's too poor to pay bail..i hate him one of the kids just got his GED unlike the loser who did it who has no life and goes there just to fight everday!

I know that block well. the cops usually do their best to get them out of the area quickly and stop loitering.

but then god help you if you're on the train with them.

can't win. at least, they cleaned up the drug dealing years ago. I'm seeing much more strollers in HK lately.

ie that baby store bump to baby.

that macdonald's have the 2for3 filet of fish.

The cops are useless...two weeks ago I was walking my dog on 50th street and one of the students started smashing fluorescent light bulbs on the sidewalk. The neighbors were outraged, the cops just threatened the kid, and I had to carry my dog to ensure she didn't get cut. The kid walked away...and the resident cleaned it up. Typical.

Most of these kids are trash with no respect for the world they live in. I've often feared my safety on this street...and the stabbing just validates my fears.

Now see, if this were the High School of Graphic Communication Arts of my day, these bedwetters wouldn't be fighting with sticks and 2x4s, but with t-squares, triangles, and x-acto knives.

  • wow... the shit eating kids in hell's kitchen... not a shock.

FWIW, the kids who go to that highschool are almost 90% commuters. As a HK resident I'm pissed that this happened as well, but if you think this is typical HK behavior, I think you have a wrong (read old) opinion of HK.

  • I live in HK too, and I am saddened that this trash is isn't picked up with the rest of non recyclables.

Me too. This is only two blocks from my apartment and every day I see the same group of teens ( here's where I sound like an old bag) yelling their heads off and hitting each other outside a scummy deli on that exact corner. I walk across the street to avoid them now, since they harass any one that dares to penetrate their mob/ use the sidewalk between the hours of 3PM to 4.

Probably the same hoodlums that stole my camera! Had my car broken into in front of HSGCA in the middle of the day about a year ago and all they took was my camera and lenses. Bastards.
