Video: Cute Subway Hero Actor Dude Speaks to Rachel Maddow

Though he initially said he wanted to remain anonymous, actor Chad Lindsey, who on Monday rescued a man who fell into the subway tracks in Penn Station, has been making the rounds, doing TV appearances with WCBS and Rachel Maddow's show. On the latter program, he recounts his daring rescue story with self-effacing aplomb, and while there aren't any new details revealed, many viewers will no doubt swoon to hear the cutie tell his tale.

All in all, it's a hell of an anecdote, and the only way the story could get better is if it turns out Chad Lindsey (Seann William Scott?) paid the guy (Kevin Nealon?) to fall into the tracks so he could get his big break. And it totally works, until Nealon gets jealous of Chad's fame and threatens to expose him if he doesn't start getting him some acting gigs, too. So Chad introduces Nealon to some producers, assuming he'll flop, but of course they eat it up and cast the two of them in a buddy movie about show dog kidnappers (Hot Dawgs?). And when the truth finally comes out during Chad's full-Bale on-set meltdown, Chad's new girlfriend (Zooey Deschanel) totally turns on him, and so does the rest of the world—even Maddow—and he winds up interning back at the same depressing Off-Off Broadway theater where it all started. Chad, give us a call so we can talk merchandising!

I'm kind of glad I started reading Gothamist again, now. This post is borderline McSweeney's. Good job.

  • leepresson

I am saddened by the fact that readers of Gothamist cannot recognize satirical (yet not inappropriate) humor. Jeeez!

  • GOP

The second paragraph should be deleted. It makes it seem like this guy made up the story. It's very misleading for those that don't read good.

"It's very misleading for those that don't read good."

To hell with those people. They should have worked harder in school. It's funny. JDS is a laugh riot today.

(Well, OK, that's overstating it a little. But I appreciate the humor.)

  • GOP

And those that can't do other things good too.

  • Manitoba

Who is this Rachel Maddow, and why is she so irritating?

  • Trilby16

You guys should demand your money back!

  • Trilby16

Wow, what a bunch of nasty complainers here today!

  • goya51

I've been skeptical of this story for a little while now. How did we find out about this guy if he just left the scene?

A couple years ago, a homeless man next to me fell face first into the tracks. Another man and I jumped down to pull him off. We both got back out fine, informed the station agents, then left. No one ever tracked me or the other guy down.

I'm not telling this story to aggrandize myself, just to illustrate that I think this guy is doing some self-promotion here.

"How did we find out about this guy if he just left the scene? "

According to the original story, a NY Times editor happened to be there and gave the guy his card before he left, asking him to call later.

  • I always wondered what I would do if I saw someone fall onto the tracks, I don't think I'd ever have the courage to jump in with a train coming.

  • jaycjay

I don't mean this to take away from what he did, because it was still commendable and risky, but unlike some of the past "subway hero" occurrences (like the guy who laid over the victim in the trench as the train come over them) this time a train wasn't immediately approaching.

After he tried unsuccessfully to wake the victim up, he lifted him out with the help of people on the platform. He later said that the train finally came in about 10 or 15 seconds after they were off of the tracks.

cute? what shitty taste in men.

  • Aveais Essex

    wow what shitty writing. just...wow.

  • whitecastlerock

I consider myself a subway hero because I did not throttle the preacher screaming about Jesus on the downtown 3 train today...

  • kchu

So basically this guy just watched an episode of 30 Rock and decided to try it for himself.

  • ides_of_march

I can just see it now; actors' agents trying to shove their more annoying, harder to sell clients onto the nearest subway tracks. "C'mon, don't be such a diva, it's a great career move! Get your unemployed ass down there you idiot, I think I can get you on CSI..."

  • GOP

This post is just fuckin' confusing. What the fuck is the second paragraph about? And the first paragraph is kind of uncomfortable to read, like watching Nathaniel Marshall sing on American Idol.

Check the author. Every story he writes is more about his supposed wit than the story itself. JDS may be a great guy, but a great comedian/writer, he is not.
