Seriously Sick Teens Charged With Setting Cat On Fire

CityRoom has details on how two teens— Angelo Monderoy, 18, and Matthew Cooper, 17—now face multiple charges for arson, burglary and animal cruelty for "breaking into a vacant apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and setting a cat on fire" last October. The ASPCA conducted an investigation and, according to the Brooklyn DA's office, "the defendants brought the cat into the apartment, held the cat down and poured charcoal lighter fluid in it. They then set the animal on fire, causing deep wounds and fourth-degree thermal burns." Later, the cat was "found outside crying, unable to move, but still alive"; the cat was taken to a vet and euthanized. The pair face up to 25 years in prison if convicted and Cooper has allegedly broken into the same building before: He and a different cohort were recently "charged with breaking into an apartment and beating the tenant with a cane, while the victim lay in bed, asleep, and then demanding money." Here's more on reporting animal cruelty.

Let them rot in prison for life. 25 years is too short and with parole or something it may like 5 years.

Oh, come on. This is horrible but a lifetime sentence?

People go out and brutally kill animals every day for "fun," but unless it's a dog or cat, animals most everyone can relate to, people don't get up in arms about it for the most part.

so sad...

eye for an eye might be fitting here, burn the hell out of an appendage or two.

People who abuse animals often wind up attacking people as well. I guess one of these has already started. I recommend putting them away permanently in a psychiatric prison, or at least until someone can figure out what's wrong with them and fix it.

I totally agree. Set the bastards on fire and then try to beat the fire out with a cane. That would be the appropriate punishment.

I couldn't read the full description because stories like these haunt me, but I have to say that these two young men are sick people. I don't understand why they would want to do this.

I hope these two get beaten severely every day for a long while. I need to go home and hug my cat now.

no words can describe what I want these 2 to go through.
I lost it when I read the cat was found crying.

Might as well leave them in prison. Any slim prospects they ever had for real careers are gone. Any company with an actual human resources department will Google their names before offering jobs and find this story. Many if not most girls will not want anything to do with them, either. They'll be social pariahs in school. Unless they legally change their names.

Not really. They can always join the Army.

eye for an eye. burn em at the stake!

So they actually took the cat there and then burned it? What a bunch of sick fucks. They SHOULD go to jail for 25 years.

These aren't even 'young' teens. 18 and 17 years old- that is truly sickening, and they deserve to go to jail. Followed by a lot of mandatory therapy and community service.

I think both of them will feel such unbelievable guilt over what they did that they will hang themselves in their cells during the night. Yes, that's what I think they will both do.

Had their mothers wisely aborted the two of them, these wascals could never have pulled this stunt.

Another case of the left tail of the Bell Curve in action.

25 years in jail is way too soft. They deserve the death penalty. I hope they suffer more than the poor cat.

It is just a cat, probably abandoned by someone else (who is at fault here just as much as the bastards that burnt the poor cat). Ease up people.
I like cats and I know what these low-lives did is cruel, retarded, immature, stupid and disgusting. But they will get one year probation for this (on top of what they will get for B&E).

Cat "crying" - must have been heart breaking to hear.:(

and you cant forget cat crying - go watch some videos of middle eastern and chechen militants cutting POWs and hostages' heads off with dull knives.

I hear what you're saying, Kreo.

These people aren't "Seriously Sick", they are emotionally disturbed. Anyone who would calculate such a horribly cruel and inhumane thing wouldn't hesitate to do something to a person.
Ugh. Lock them up and throw away the key - this type of behavior can't be remedied.

"Lock them up and throw away the key - this type of behavior can't be remedied."

So actually, you should be advocating the death penalty for them. If they can't be rehabilitated, what's the point of locking them away forever?

DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is wrong with some people?!?!?!? Man, I read stuff sometimes that make me wanna run and hide in the jungle away from human race....(these 2 punks, that creepy Austrian father, bailouts, me being poor and owing IRS money......etc, etc, etc....

Unconscionable!

The real animal here isn't the cat, poor thing, it's these two heartless, deranged, psychopaths.

I say throw these two brainless twits in jail and lose the key. They'll be dealt with by their own ilk.

And they deserve everything they get!

This sucks! People do shit like this every day. An example has to be set to show them that it won't be tolerated. And as far as some of you saying "It's just a cat" - yeah it is a cat, but it doesn't deserve this treatment. Animal cruelty makes me sick. There is no excuse for someone to mistreat an animal. Throw their ass in jail forever. We can make room for them there by actually killing the people on death row.
