REMINDER: Some former Vandal Squad cops face off with former graffiti artists tonight at powerHouse Arena.
EVENT: Remember that whole Flavor Tripping thing? It's still here, and tonight a flavor tripping party is being hosted by the Shadow Government (the folks behind Street Wars). A ticket gets you entry, your own miracle fruit, tasting foods, and open tequila bar. Need a refresher course?: "Flavor Tripping is an ongoing series of Bacchanalian food tasting smackdowns...The series of tastings center on miracle fruit, a cranberry-sized West African berry that that numbs your sour and bitter taste buds for a couple of hours after eating it." So allegedly, after eating the magical berry a stout beer tastes like a chocolate milkshake, cheese tastes like frosting, and that free tequila you're downing will taste like lemonade.
7 to 10 p.m. // Madame X [94 W Houston St] // $40
MUSIC: Has it come to this? Since all of the bands are in Austin right now, 3rd Ward, Etsy and some others have banded together to bring us Handmade Music Night. Everyone is invited, no music experience necessary! The event brings together tech geeks, music nerds and crafty creators. It's like a regular show meets an arts/crafts/science fair...with a bit of steampunk tossed in.
7:30 to 10:30 p.m. // 3rd Ward [195 Morgan Ave, Brooklyn] // Free with RSVP
THEATER: In Rooms: A Rock Romance, a five-piece band helps tell the story of two dysfunctional young lovers from Glasgow who find themselves electrified by NYC during the 1980s CBGB punk heyday. A mix of comedy and bittersweet romance, the story is, according to Neil Genzlinger at the Times, "100 percent surprise-free; you always know exactly where it’s going. That means the stars of this modest musical at New World Stages need to be very good for the thing to stand a chance of holding your attention. Fortunately, they are." — John Del Signore
8 p.m. // New World Stages [340 West 50th Street] // Tickets
PARTY: Tonight Greenhouse will house a Wild Girls Gone Spring Break Cocktail Reception, with an open vodka bar. "Join Way Over Budget and UCB for complimentary Exclusiv Vodka and a room full of the funniest people you've like, ever met. In addition to the fab festivities, professional funny man Mike Birbiglia will be selecting and screening the winner of the Wild Girls Gone Video Competition and awarding a fantastic vacation package." Who needs Cancun?
9 to 11 p.m. // Greenhouse NY [150 Varick St] // Free with RSVP
