That expensive cocktail may get more expensive: State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-Bronx) is proposing a tax on alcohol. NY1 reports that Oritz argues "most of the funds generated through the new tax would be used for alcohol and drug abuse treatment and education programs around the state" (those programs face cuts with the proposed budget). Previously, Ortiz has suggested banning alcohol ads on MTA properties, taxing strip clubs, and grading kids' weights.

This guy is such a douche.
What the hell? Legalize hemp!! I have to visit Hill Street Blues in Amsterdam. It rock!!! we need such a cafe in NYC
http://www.hill-street-blues.nl/dealers.htm
my best moments were in Hill Street Blues cafe. King Bloomberg would never allow this cafein NYC, he doesn't want his subjects to have any fun. He wants us all to be as asexual and deprive of any emotions as him.
he's just trying to get his name in the papers. Political posturing. That's all this is. A bronx politician would never actually tax 40s. It would cause a revolution.
A bronx politician probably lives in riverdale and would be all for it. Bodegas wouldnt charge tax, and country club went up to $2.50 recently anyway,
Tax fatties, not alkies.
here is a novel thought how bout cut down on some useless spending before taxing people to death.
Where's NannyState?
Because this is case in point: Government taxing responsible behavior to regulate/"help" bad behavior.
Alcoholism is a medical problem to be solved by family, friends, church, temple, and outside help. The government trying to regulate behavior and subsidize those who are irresponsible with their drinking is a grotesque usage of power. These guys are so full of themselves.
all these ideas of new taxes! booze, music, books, air, these stupid idiots should be thinking more along the lines of CONGESTION TAX!!!!!
there is already a booze tax. The tears of shame when you wake up next to a fat fuggo thanx to the beer goggles.
This guy is such a buzzkill.
Taxes on strip clubs and booze. I wonder how popular he was in high school?
As Chris Rock says about the Betty Ford clinic (which costs $12k a week or something outrageous like that): If you can afford it, you don't have a problem!
Therefore, perhaps this economic deterioration is curing all sorts of addictions if people can no longer afford their vices. If they choose to now suck dick for coke like Bob Sagat, then that's their choice and I'd rather not have to pay more to imbibe responsibly just so scumbags can have the state take care of them.
I'm all for soda tax though, that's the kind of public health issue that doesn't involve addictions or hard drugs, just dumb fat people that need to be told what to do.
fat wannabe cowboys, bleh
Hallo! There is already an alcohol tax. What do you expect from a guy called Felix?
Like alcohol isn't already taxed to the hilt.
Besides, the money from raised taxes never goes to what they tell you they need it for.
