JC Penney Goes Fur-Free

0309nofur.jpg Animal lovers everywhere can consider themselves victorious. One small step was made for the anti-fur set, as the Humane Society of the US's president announced that, "JCPenney, with more than 1,000 stores in 49 states, has become fur-free, making it the first multiple location, traditional department store to be fur-free in stores and on its website. The company is currently fur-free and has no plans for fur items in the future." Racked is skeptical however, and thinks that the store's motives "can't be completely golden; we're sure the current economy's effects on both shopper's budgets and store bottom lines played major parts in the decision." Earlier this year the HSUS called out some other NYC department stores for mislabeling their fur products. JCPenney will be opening their Manhattan Mall store this summer, and maybe the PETA strippers will be doing their shopping there.

Brilliant PR move by JC Penney. Nobody's buying crappy furs there anyway so instead of a news story about how they're getting out of the business because they suck at it they spin it as an environmental cause. Great one.

Are there any advocates for the cute cuddly wild boar that are continually hunted for sport in the Southwest? Yep, didn't think so...

  • NannyState

Nobody wanted a $49.99 Towncraft Fur Coat anyway.

  • wiseguynyc

Yeah! A responsible corporate decision for once.

JC Penney sold furs? I thought they only sold Boy Scout uniforms; at least that's where I used to buy mine.

  • nyrangers

350,000 baby seals will be clubbed this month in Canada and the Mother seal eyes will be gorged as she tries to defend her young that can't even swim.

  • Guest

What in the hell do seals and furs have to do with each other? Stay on topic!

Also, how would it make you feel to know that your campaign to save the seals means that some poor Eskimo children will go hungry? Do you even think before you speak (or type)? This is the only country on the planet that has people who believe themselves elite enough to take food out of other people's mouths just because we disagree with what they're doing. I bet you want to save all of the dogs in China too. Come to think of it, that's not such a bad idea. Starving commies is a good thing.

...and the Mother seal eyes will be gorged...

The sealers are going to eat their eyes?

  • felixthecat2

No, the sealers gauged the mothers' eyes since they don't want the mothers to defend their youngs. Their mother tries to defend their youngs that can't swim and you can hear the baby seals cry in pain. what mother can't hear those cries?

  • dadoc

Ok, I understand, they're not going to eat the mothers' eyes. But is there some sort of special gauge for seal eyes? Is there an international standard? Kinda like model railroading? Or maybe it was Ganja, no wait, maybe grunge? No doesn't work. Are they killing seals in the Ganges? Nah, must be gorgons. No, wait, I've almost got it. It's for the youngs...Never mind. FREE CARRIAGE HORSES! Here's the videos....

  • Matt

Dadoc, why are you being such an ass? And what sort of doctor refers to himself as Da Doc? I do empathize with anyone one who is your patient if you really are a licensed doctor. The point is that baby seals are clubbed and some skinned alive for their fur. And I don't understand what horse carriage have to do with fur but the horses are abused as well in NYC. I don't understand why people as you enjoy cruelty and as stated before I feel sorry for any patient of yours since you lack ethics and compassion.

  • EricRoberts

He's purposely being a dick because felixthecat's rant is about eye gorging (sic) is not based in reality in the first place. Whether or not you feel the hunt should be stopped, there's no reason to invent horrific details.

  • felixthecat2

no the eye gorging is true, look at the videos, the mother tries to defend their young and the sealers poke the mothers eyes to stop them from defending their youngs. Also about a wannabe cowboy would make a stupid comments. Money is not an end for all means.
