Two-time Vendy Award-winning Kwik Meal has opened up a new food cart in Manhattan dedicated to President Obama, who apparently has a wee bit of the Irish in him. Midtown Lunch noticed the cart, called Meal O'Bama, yesterday, and asked owner (and former cook at the Russian Tea Room) Muhammed Rahman about the name. Rahman says, "I just wanted to come up with something new
a new name, and I feel like it would be an attraction. He is the President of America. Also, he is a good person and I really like him, but don’t know how to say it. I want to say nice things, but don’t know the words." Now we know Rahman's not Irish. But it's true, sometimes O'Bama love is best expressed simply by selling grilled lamb and falafel in his name. Tuesday is St. Paddy's Day, and if Rahman's really smart, he'll kick it up a notch by cooking up some dyed-green chicken shawarmrocks.

St. Patty?
Patty is short for Patricia.
Paddy is short for Patrick.
Mr. Del Signore, you do know that the Italian who sailed over here in 1492 was not Christine Columbus, don't you?
:)
Corrected, thanks!
This is something us non-Gaelic forget.
It's not even Tuesday and the Irish are already chippy. :)
Like the saying on the statue of liberty goes, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to drink free,..."
He should serve soul food. You got hamhocks and plenty o' greens.
Uggh.. NannyState I thought you were above such stereotypes!! Your poster likeness in my room is coming down!!!
to make it simpler,
it's Paddy wagon, not Patty wagon.
Obama haute cuisine= shit sandwich (the less bread we have we, the more shit we eat).
My friend tried the lamb from this cart yesterday and said it was very excellent.
Meal O'bama, if spoken with a slur, sounds like someone saying the First Lady's name. Also, I wonder what Barack is cooking.
Awesome, Kwik Meal comes to midtown west. This cart is located at W. 37th Street & 7th Ave.
Right now, I'm eating the lamb pita. (Actually some chicken too because they ran out of the cooked lamb and have to cook some more.)
These are actual chunks of real marinated lamb and chicken, not gyro (or shwarma) pressed meat. It's put on the pita with a small mix of diced lettuce, tomato and onion and then some yogurt (don't know if they actually call it tzadziki [sp?]) sauce.
It's somewhat spicy- I guess about a 4 or 5 on 1-10 scale (10 being atomic hot.)
It was $6.50. I guess somewhat reasonable considering it's all fresh meat and freshly cooked. I also spend more than that on Hale & Hearty soups!
Yes, this was 37th and 7th. So far, I like the idea of another decent lunch alternative in this area.
damn that lamb sounds good. I never knew there was such a following for lamb street meat.
Last year's Meal O'Bush probably did better business.
