After Rep. Anthony Weiner revealed his hesitance about running for mayor this fall, reporters asked Mayor Bloomberg if his wealth was intimidating to other potential candidates. The mayor, the 17th richest man in the world, is reportedly spending $80 million (or 0.5% of his wealth) on his campaign. Politicker NY, which has video of the extended answer, reports that Bloomberg said, "There’s no evidence to me that there are fewer candidates running... We don’t preclude you from running because you got a better education than I did or are better looking or more photogenic.” Related: The NY Times' Clyde Haberman explains Bloomberg's "we love rich people" remark by way of the Mayor's budget data that "show... people earning $500,000 or more a year make up 1 percent of New York taxpayers but account for nearly 50 percent of the income taxes that the city collects."

A$$hole, i pray he loses the race before we lose the city.
Bleh..he annoys me.
Not for nothing, but if the rich pay 50% of the city's revenue, it kinds of blows a hole in the theory that they don't pay their fair share.
Only if you try to ignore where they "made" their money.
only a fool thinks that, everyone pays taxes even the bums on skidrow, dont your realize that federa income tax is only one form of taxes, you have state taxes, inheritance taxes, taxes on food, real estate taxes, car tag taxes, luxury taxes hell you most likey pay taxes to take a shit if you go to a public rest room in some places.
So dont fool yourself, every one pays in fact the rich really end up paying less due to special privleges and perks, they may show they pay more but if you look deep enough they get it back in one form or another, its how the system is geared.
People in this country pay more taxes than anywhere and what do we get other than cops that think that they can shoot us at will, we dont even get medical care but people in other countries do and they have far less money, in health care we rank down there with the 3rd world nations or worse.
Only a fool named felix believes all of the shit that PETA feeds them. Only a fool named felix believes that the health care system in the US is just as fucked up as the health care in Zambia. Only a fool named felix tries to pass off his (or her) skewed view of reality as fact. Only a fool named felix bitches about rich people when greed is the real culprit. Bloomberg actually pays his people well and they receive very good benefits. It's not like he's hoarding all of his wealth so he can have a mad, dope crib with 16 bathrooms, 10 bedrooms, a recreation room (complete with stripper pole), and 3 hot tubs... plus a Bentley with 22" rims and a stretch Hummer.
The only thing felix said that makes any sense is that we pay too many taxes.
Au contraire: http://gothamist.com/2009/02/25/mr_bloomberg_builds_his_dream_townh.php
The stuff you mentioned is small fries compared to what Bloomberg does with his money.
I'm not religious by any means, but the parable that Jesus told about the poor giving all they have (merely pennies) and the wealthy giving enormous amounts (though only a small fraction of their worth) comes to mind.
Good point. I just get overworked by pinko commie scum bitching about others having money because they, the pinko commie scum, don't. I'm not rich by any means, but others having money doesn't piss me off, as long as they're not greedy. If they're greedy, then they can rot in hell.
I hate to disagree with you HBDC, but be careful whenever you agree with ANYTHING FelixThePussy claims.
USA taxes are amongst the lowest in the industrial world. Western and Northern Europeans pay way more than we do.
Sweden takes about 60% for example.
That may be true, but I still believe we pay way too much. Government intrusion into our lives requires that we subsidize every little pet project some Senator believes will 'enhance' our lives as Americans.
