Hundreds of friends and family members gathered at Cobble Hill Chapels yesterday to mourn the death of 17-year-old Sharif Abdallah, as police continued to investigate whether they will bring homicide charges against three teenagers and one father arrested in conjunction with the fight that led to the boy's death. As of right now, 42-year-old Angelo Bracco, along with his sons Eric and Christian and their friend Dominic Barbera, have been charged with gang assault.
A friend of both the victim and the teens accused told reporters, "It's family against family now. I guarantee there's going to be reprisals on this and it'll be stupid because it was stupid that the kid died." Angelo Bracco's brother told the Post, "Angelo went because his kids were getting beat up. Who wouldn't do that? His kids aren't street thugs, they're good kids."
It is still not clear exactly how Abdallah died after collapsing while fleeing the scene of the scuffle in Prospect Park on Saturday night. An autopsy was inconclusive. Abdallah's father told the Times that Sharif had mitral valve prolapse, which affects a valve between the left atrium and the left ventricle. But Abdallah played baseball and basketball and the condition should not have affected him merely from running.
The Daily News spoke with 16-year-old Kerry-Lynn Conroy, the girl that Abdallah was defending when she was called "Ugly Betty." She told the paper, "[They] were just making comments, calling me ugly. They were just being jerks .... I didn't even care...He was the kind of friend you would go to when things like this happened...I wish it was me."

As anyone who lives in the area knows the kids who hang out here are low-lifes. It's not surprising that this eventually happened. They enagage in name calling to most anyone who walks by. Hopefully my dog will bite them one of these days when they instigate her.

Such a sad story for all involved. I passed by the funeral home in Cobble Hill on my way home last night and was amazed by the turnout at the wake. As JGNY said, there is definitely a bad group of kids in this neighborhood. If the parents are willing to join a fight to beat up on a kid, it just shows the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Mitral valve prolapse is not an adequate explanation for this young man's sudden death. MVP is present, to some degree, in a large number of people. In order for it to be considered as a contributing factor in his death, there must be another cardiac condition present: a heart muscle disease, more severe valve disease or an electrical abnormality of the heart. It is that third condition that probably killed him, since such a condition isn't usually seen on autopsy.
It's always "good kids". Screw them. The father and the kids deserve the book thrown at them. They killed a kid.

Cobble Hill and Windsor Terrace are both very safe neighborhoods with low crime rates - do your homework. This is just a case of an unforeseen tragedy and some bad/questionable choices made by a well intentioned parent.

It's hard I loss friends and family as a teen due to street stuff also, and I never meant to say any thing bad about his death or him. But let's please be honest they would have killed those kids and their dad if they would have gotten a hold of them. I don't think the father went there to fight, but he as any man feels the need to protect his children. A love for children is like no other, and everyone involed knows the truth. The Sense Is..as you asked me are that drugs were being used that nite and drinking was also a factor in this. To lose a son like is not fare but life isn't fare, was it fare when the mob attacked them? Was it fare when Jarmed Allah his friend got arrestted hours after this? Too bad jarmed didn't hit you in the head with the skateboard, because then maybe it would rock your brain back into shape. god knows who these two kids are, god cares who these two kids are. i look at all these different sites because sharif was my friend, not ricky, not jarmed. i hate to break it to you, but no matter what information you get out there about these two kids, it's not going to affect the trial for the bracco's. even if this did come up in cross examination, it would be sustained because it's irrelevant to sharif's murder. if the bracco kids did get mobbed, they should have taken this "gang" to court for assault, instead the shoe is on the other foot and they're the ones with high bail, and being charged for "gang assault" and possibly manslaughter. after leaving the party they returned how many hours later, all premeditated, the father wanted blood.
