Engagement to Nowhere: Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston Break Up

2009_03_johnstpali.jpg Famous Alaskan teen parents Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have confirmed their break-up to the Associated Press. The couple's relationship and pregnancy became an unavoidable talking point since Palin's mother, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, was the 2008 Republican VP candidate; the couple made a very public appearance at the Republican National Convention and their baby Tripp was born on Dec. 27. Today, Johnston said that they decided to mutually break up "a while ago" but his sister Mercede told Star there were bigger problems, "Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!" Bristol Palin, who just last month said they were getting married, is "devastated" about the Star article and said, "Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name. Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

Really Levi, take a hike. You're tarnishing the good name Palin.

  • NannyState

    So...who gets the commemorative Tupperware?

    Great blog post

  • IHunt12

Want to rethink your stance on abstinence only sexual education Sarah Palin? No? Don’t see how this applies? Ok.

I know that meaningless "celebrity" gossip like this gets hits, but is there any real reason for this story to be on Gothamist when it's already on nearly every other website in the world? There isn't even a specious connection to New York here.

  • handsomedevil

Actually, Gothamist is my only source for delicious junk food like this. If it wasn't here, I might very well have missed it, and so I am grateful to Jen & Co. Same is true for all the fun Jon Stewart clips.

Is anyone shocked? Let’s face it; this hillbilly had no intention of making an honest woman out of this bumkin. Still, I have to give him props, he was able to travel around the country, stay in the finest hotels, got a whole new wardrobe, and was paid rather nicely by the RNC to play a role. Not a bad haul for forgetting to “pull out”.

Girls, let this be a lesson. If you want to avoid this embarrassment, stick to anal.

That kid is going to grow up one day and realize his existence was due to the political expediency of his grandmother. That's assuming he survives all of the schoolyard beatings over his name...

  • Dirk

    Is anyone surprised?

  • inoyourider

    Who gives a shit?

C'mon Gothamist give us NYC news like promised.

Let this hillbilly piece of trash die like that whore Dupre that you insist on telling us about.

  • New Baby Hitler

"Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name."

Really, "the Palin name"???? 'Cause I thought that name was a liability.

  • LinkMan

What about the last half of the "quote:" "Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

Yeah, sure. A 17yo said that. Right.

  • interlard

I feel bad for these kids. Having to play this out in public because grandma Palin is a hypocritical nazi with a huge grudge against almost everyone.

  • Steven

Palin told them to wait until after the election and when things calmed down.

  • chuzzlewit

    no shit.

  • CR

I've only one thing to say: Goyim!

  • matty

Also...I just want to take time out of my evening to say that Bristol is hot and I would wifey that up. Real talk.

    Her mom is hot too.

  • Spirit of 76

Maybe, but if the daughter is even half as dumb as the mother, no, thank you.

  • matty

Don't throw stones in glass houses.

  • freddynyc

Then does that make the kid half white trash...?

  • Jasonman

Well, if Levi's family is indeed white trash, that would make the kid 100% white trash.
