The Observer reports that local independent Brooklyn newspaper The Brooklyn Paper has been purchased by News Corporation. The paper's editor Gersh Kuntzman said he hadn't met or spoken with News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch yet, but assured the Observer, "They don’t want the product to change. And they love the product. And the product is fantastic." Kuntzman, a former NY Post writer, had dismissed concerns that the Brooklyn Paper was in financial trouble last year, "Brooklyn needs us too much right now, what with local papers being snapped up by billionaire moguls who have no interest in local news except maximizing classified ad sales," a statement that he now amends to, "Brooklyn still needs The Brooklyn Paper, which is why one of the only people in the world who still believes in newspapers — Rupert Murdoch — is putting his money and genius behind us." Recently, a NY Times article looked at how Murdoch's fondness for printing was hurting News Corp.'s bottom line.

"They don't want the product to change."
....but maybe just replace a few pages with sensationalist yellow journalism.
First off, his name's Kuntzman. If that's not enough, his first name is Gersh, and he wears a baseball hat announcing that fact to the world. And, if that's still not enough, his column in the Post was called MetroGnome. And, as if it was needed, one of his recent exposés at the Brooklyn Paper was his own posing nude for an art class and documenting the experience. Well played, Rupert.
lol. what a fantastic person!
God bless you, Gersh Kuntzman.
Point of information, Wallard: The hat is from the Gersh Agency in Manhattan. I saw it at a yard sale and bought it for a buck. If you know anything about my work (and it seems you do), you certainly know I don't need a hat to announce anything to the world.

Omg. Well if it isn't TBP's very own...GERSH KUNTZMAN!
Gersh...how DO you do it?
LOL: "The paper's editor Gersh Kuntzman said he hadn't met or spoken with News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch yet,..."
Not quite the NY Times, but a suitable trophy nonetheless for Murdoch's basement rec room.
Let's hope there aren't a bunch of 24 year old journalism school grads on their way from Sydney to Brooklyn right now ready to take over the editorial board.
How much to Murdoch pay? I'm too lazy to search the jumps (and it may not even be in there anyway).
If he paid $1, it's $1 too much. The Brooklyn Heights/Cobb Hill/C. Gardens Courier is a more reliable news source. You'd have to pay me to take control of the Brooklyn Paper. The "live" video series on the opening of the Red Hook Ikea was the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
