McCain Doesn't Want Obama To Fail But...

2009_03_mccainob.jpg In an interview with Politico, Senator John McCain said, "These are terrible, perilous times, so I will seek ways to work with the president of the United States. I don’t want him to fail in his mission of restoring our economy.” However, he has problems with how President Obama and his administration have been handling budget issues so far, as well as the measures enacted by President Bush, “We’re pouring billions and billions of dollars into (banks) with not only no improvement, but their stocks continue to plummet. I think we have been pursuing the wrong strategy.” McCain added that the Obama administration "would have to present a blueprint that not only convinces me but frankly that convinces the Warren Buffetts and the Jack Welches ... people we would look up to who are experts who would say this plan will work. We don’t hear that.” Well, Warren Buffett did say yesterday that the GOP should support Obama.

  • “John McCain is toxic. (In school, he was known as ‘McNasty.’) He may, by any definition, be a hero, but he’s no patriot. He serves John McCain.”

I hope you’ll take a look at how much more I have to say about McNasty (for now) at http://sonofthecucumberking.blogspot.com/2009/03/oh-johnny-we-never-knew-ye.html. Thanks.

McCain added that the Obama administration "would have to present a blueprint that not only convinces me but frankly that convinces the Warren Buffetts and the Jack Welches ... people we would look up to who are experts

Ouch. McCain only trusts the billionaires' opinions? Some of those experts (I'm looking at you Wall Street) ran their companies into the ground.
  • NannyState

Yeah, this from the guy who chose sarah palin as his running mate. The fact that the clear majority of americans who voted for Obama need little "convincing" never crossed the mind of this scabby old republican genius.

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

Go ahead try to 'ban' the one-of-the-few who is not afraid to print what a MARXIST DEMBHOLE-DOUCHESBAG 'the OBAMA' IS. PREZ BARACH'incurably-dishonest'OBAMA leading y'all to insolvency and SOCIALISTSLAVERY!!!

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

to Spirit76 - Tough being 'faced' with someone so much brighter than you DEMBHOLE-DOUCHESBAGS who is not afraid to speak truth about the lil BLACK BOY 'the OBAMA' ain't it??? Report all youse want - youse certainly proved you can't think!!! Ha.

  • verbal

Face it President Obama is in so far over his head, and his Treasury department is a joke. I love the fact that dissent is now taboo. Name one Senator that gave Bush constructive criticism rather than the foaming at the mouth diatribes; Senator McCain has not only a right, but a duty to question the President's actions.

The concept of hoping for failure is lost in the difference between ideology and policy; of course everyone wants successful results, but the long-term choices of change to our fundamental philosophy is another story.

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

heh DEMBHOLE-DOUCHESBAGS - The BANKS needed to be flushed with cash - that was done - now all the scummy fookers in the DEMBHOLE CONGRESS got their 'pork benefits' for themselves and their shithead supporters and say its SHITTY STIMULUS with earmarks for themselves!!! Both REPUBLICANTS(40% of earmarks were theirs) + DESPICABLE DEMBHOLES are costing you, your children + their grandchildren financial solvency in lil BLACK BOY 'the OBAMA's fooked-up MARXIST mania for our future. 'the OBAMA'=our new STALIN!!! DO YOU LOOK 'GUDT' IN MARXIST DEPRESSED MAUVE??? MORONS.

All the GOP are doing is complaining and complaining, but they aren't offering any other solutions besides sending money over to the banks. WTF!.

You don't like the idea, then come up with a NEW IDEA.

  • 800 billion dollars, 300 million people, new strategy: just give me my $2600 tax-free dollars—which is about as wasteful as giving $50 billion to a bank.

  • Hey, I could use a new DSLR...

    ;)

  • jackdonaghy

Yes, according to McCain the banks are in great health and don't need any financial assistance.

On a serious note, has McCain every offered any substantive solution to the problems we're facing? Of course not.

  • ma bell

wait...then what was the excuse he gave for suspending his campaign for last year? i thought it was to sign the financial bailout. where did you get this line from? or did you just make it up

  • Politburo

The OP slightly misstated the facts, but the spirit of the message is correct, and applies to many of the critics.

To simply criticize is not helpful. If you want to be viewed as constructive, you should present an alternative with your criticism. The Politico interview has zero discussion of any alternative plan. McCain says "I think we have been pursuing the wrong strategy" but gives no indication of what he thinks the 'right' strategy is. It may be that these alternatives are not getting reported, but as the GOP is generally good at getting their message out, I consider this unlikely.

While McCain did vote for the initial bank bailout, he voted against the 2nd piece of that package and voted against the stimulus package.

(This comment doesn't apply to the budget debate.. I agree with McCain that the Dems' excuse is lame)

  • ma bell

and therein lies my beef with the republican party. you're right, they offer nothing but complaints. and the previous lame admin did nothing at all to offer any sort of solutions. that is also why mccain wasn't the man for the job. to blast the man for disagreeing is short sited, to blast him for not offering alternative solutions is legit.

  • sensibile

Country First, eh? And you mean the Bailout package that McCain suspended his campaign to make sure got approved? :::Applause:::

  • ma bell

but what, jen? but he disagrees with the tactics this administration is using? oh no! disagreement! the enemy of all that is good!

  • Well, personally I'd like constructive criticism, something the GOP doesn't seem to do.

Unrelated, can ZAG get banned yet?

  • ma bell

is saying "your budget doesn't work because we don't have a way to pay for everything you want" constructive enough for you?

  • Hugo, erm, ZAG, you're foaming at the mouth and drooling on your keyboard.

    Again.

Notice Sen. MacCain (or ZAG for that matter) has no suggestion as to a solution?

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

Yo SD - YOUSE AN ASS BOY!!! My suggestions were printed here in brief and were fully elucidated on my web sites!!! Youse not onky stepped in shit youse dines on it!!!Fook you and the lil BLACK BOY 'the OBAMA' even though he can read from a teleprompter!!!

  • dr zippy

Act civil or go away. Preferably the latter.

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

to dr.zippy - UP YOUR ASS YOU FOOKN WANKER!!! YOUSE A DIPSHIT dr.

  • VanessaNYC

Yeah, I'm going to agree with Dr Zippy. Please go away.

  • Spirit of 76

Don't argue with him. Just use the "report this" link on every one of his messages. He'll go away after all of his comments get deleted.

  • Brooklynbobby

Get it over it, McCain!!! You lost the election!!!

  • ma bell

well he is still the senator from arizona, which means he has every right to speak to the public and other senators and to speak from a position of power. the election didn't change that. what would possibly make you think that?

sure buffet said the republicans should support obama. but he also said that this cockamamie actions taken by geithner and obama (guilt by association) haven't done anything to fix the problem.

supporting obama does not mean listening to everything he demands. nobody worth a damn wants obama to fail, but that doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything he does...especially when his economics just don't balance out. take a look at his budget...our deficit is going to be at 19% of gdp by 2014. he's spending all this fucking money without any clue where its going to come from. just tax the rich, right? well what happens when the only rich people left are the crooks in washington?

  • VanessaNYC

I'm an Obama supporter and I agree with most of what you just said (though I wouldn't stand behind the statements in your last paragraph). I think it's important that we are civil as other politicians voice their opinions. McCain isn't the devil and he's still a senator.

  • ma bell

his budget forecasts that the economy will shrink by 1.2% this year (extremely optimistic) and that it will grow by 4% per year for the following four years (even more extremely optimistic). he has promised more spending on education, energy, health care, defence and a plethora of other projects. the pit is not bottomless. this is the same wreckless spending habits that last administration used to drive this country deep into chinese debt. all he is doing is driving us further down the same road, only he's promising everybody that he will pay for so much more.

i like obama, too. i thought he came in with a fantastic message and had us feeling some sort of optimism after years of having a half-wit running our country.

all i want to know is how we are going to afford this

  • PKinNYC

Yeah Buffett did say that...but the McCain/Palin household reads the USA Today...so maybe they missed it...

  • Zyskandar A. Jaimot

SENATURD JOHN'the-old-fool'McCAIN knows nothing - except being a POW then being declared a hero for his suffering. We avoid steppin in dog shit in our daily lives - we should avoid 'the OBAMA's SHIT STIMULUS and his other SHITTY EECHONOMIK SCHEMES!!!

  • dr zippy

Given his utter cluelessness about the economy in last fall's election why would anyone listen to John McCain about it now?
