Hey, Gothamist readers: Given that 78% of you managed to make it to work on Monday through the snow storm, you can call yourself tougher than...an FBI agent! The Post reports that the FBI's NYC field office closed on Monday, citing the weather.
Sources say, "Nearly 2,000 agents and support staff were told not to bother showing up for work at 26 Federal Plaza." FBI employees were apparently told around midnight before the storm that the office would be closed. FBI spokesman James Margolin told the Post that "essential staff" were on hand, but one source put it, "The whole office was of ficially closed except for one shlub stuck answering the phone."
Margolin, who stayed home, added, "FBI agents are always on two-hour availability, to be able to report on short notice, nights, weekends, or whenever." The Post writes, "That the agency entrusted to protect the city couldn't stop Frosty the Snowman, let alone Osama bin Laden, outraged New Yorkers," before reeling off some quotes (including one from City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr.—"Criminals don't take snow days and neither should crime fighters").

Damn... how was I supposed to call in about the suspicious-looking guy in the hoodie and the tactical nuke in Astor Place?
Oh come on! What a bunch of wussies.
At least they told the truth. Now they need to come clean about all that daisy-chaining down in Quantico...
and JFK's real killer...
So apparently they are non-essential government employees.
what did I tell ya,
when the SHTF you cannot rely on first responders coming in
from upstate NY, nassau and suffolk cty and parts west.
It's amazing to see the general public thinking they know more about protecting cities than the government organizations dedicated to doing so.
If I were an employee of the FBI, I would of enjoyed the nice surprise. As Americans we all work hard, a free day off is not a bad thing.
Perhaps we could of prevented a few terrorist attacks had we been well rested.
