A-Rod & Co.: Alex Rodriguez Puts Family On Display

Did Alex Rodriguez pick this up from master media manipulator Madonna? With a phalanx of reporters and photographers covering his every move at World Baseball Championship training camp in Jupiter, Florida yesterday, the Yankees sluggers showed off his daddy side as his ex-wife Cynthia Rodriguez bought their two young daughters—Natasha, 4, and Ella, 10 months— for a visit. And it was unusual:

  • "Rodriguez was the only player who visited so visibly with his children, the only player who had at least one crisis manager trolling the back fields of Roger Dean Stadium, and the only player who had to answer questions about meeting with major league officials on Sunday." —NY Times
  • "No other players, of course, arrived with their children at this practice, but no other player has been in the steroid storm like A-Rod. A few players cast curious eyes when they first spotted the scene as cameras clicked away, but his new teammates clearly embraced Rodriguez." —NY Post
  • "A-Rod was the only one with his family at the workout, and his teammates seemed bewildered by the whole scene"—Newsday, which also noted that after A-Rod picked up 4-year-old daughter Natasha, "The pair immediately was surrounded by photographers and his daughter seemed upset by the crush."
A-Rod also said of his kids, who he sees a least once a week, "I wish they were around every day."

Aw—but back to his steroid usage controversy. Rodriguez said he was glad to have his MLB meeting behind him. And Katie Couric, who famously asked A-Rod about steroid in 2007 and got a denial, told David Letterman that Rodriguez apologized to her—both calling her and sending her a hand-delivered note to her apartment. She added that A-Rod even asked her what team he should sign with during his opt-out period.

using the kids a props to spin his image as a family guy.

He's got to repair his image... otherwise no Hall of Fame...

poor kids took after mom in the looks department.

i love photo #2: the kid has it's hand stuffed down her shirt. Ahhhh, to be a baby again....

If A-Rod actually intends to overcome his image he has a pretty insurmountable task ahead of him:

-steroids
-ridic salary vs performance
-not performing in "clutch" situations
-alienation from his teammates
-Madonna fiasco/seeming like a crazy person
-cheating on his wife/womanizing
-being a clueless egomaniac.

a couple of pics with his ex wife and kids wont help that. he needs serious image coaching, a therapist, and a new publicist.

-steroids: who cares really. In five years from now, this will be a distant memory. Athletes always have and always will use whatever they can to help themselves. The distinction between a nutritional supplement and a drug is not a biological distinction, but a legal distinction. At least 80% of professional athletes use something, whether legal or not, to boost their performance and prevent or recover from injury. Do you think that if you took steroids, you'd be able to hit 50+ home runs off major league pitching? I bet you wouldn't even make contact.

-ridic salary vs performance: really? He is at least among the top five best offensive players of all time, if not the best ever. His 2007 season was probably the best season anyone has ever had in the game. and he sells a lot of t-shirts.

-not performing in "clutch" situations: this is a myth really. You are summarizing his career in maybe at most 10 at bats? You're an idiot.

-alienation from his teammates: Ty Cobb wasn't much liked by his team mates either. And this is just hearsay for the most part, trumpeted by douchebag sports writers who write sensationalist shit to sell papers to morons (nypost, dailynews etc.), or vindictive ex managers or teammates to again, sell books, or get tv interviews.

-Madonna fiasco/seeming like a crazy person: what exactly was the fiasco here? You wouldn't shack up with Madonna if you could?

-cheating on his wife/womanizing: have you ever heard of thse guys? Joe Dimaggio - wife beater, Mickey Mantle - alcoholic, both notorious womanizers.

-being a clueless egomaniac: He's a superstar athlete, what do expect, a Nobel Prize winning novel? Is he supposed to figure out the fix to the world economic crisis? Maybe come up with an AIDS vaccine?

Get over yourself.

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with those assessments of him but those are all commonly known as part of the public's perception of him.

the point is, the public's perception of any celeb, are off off base guesstimates from the media.

I care about steroids! The yankees are dead to me cuase they've employed so many juicers. If steroids was so prominent why don't you ever hear about it in the NBA or Soccer or Tennis? the MLB fucked up cause they let the players association grab them by the balls. Now Baseball is tarnished. There is no point in watching it. I could play videogames. People who make excuses for steroid baseball players wouldn't mind their wives having sex with other dudes too. Cheater apologists in denial.

While A-Rod is not my top choice of ball players he has done a tremendous amount of philanthropy—millions of dollars in donations over the years. The media is on his ass like white on rice—he may have cheated on his wife, but he's always been a good dad to this kids...

I think the bonuses he gets for his home runs this season, all of that money will have to be donated.

yeah. he gets to pocket 99% of the money that he got from using steroids and give less than 1% to charity. Great Guy! that money could have gone to a non juicing ballplayer but ARod took it. If he were really remorseful he'd let his contract go. the Yankees would drop him in a heartbeat.

I can't believe both manny ramirez and he come from washington heights. A-Rod is very Sex and the City.

They always hide behind the wife and kids in stressful times so A-Rod might have a future in politics after all. BTW, what up with the two daughters? A real Jefe sires boys...time to check into that designer baby fertility clinic.
