With today's snow storm, the Schools Chancellor has canceled NYC public schools for the day, but it's not like the workforce can necessarily stop as well. Let us know if you're heading to work or if you're telecommuting... or just hanging out and enjoying the winter wonderland after you shovel.

It's pretty out, but not too spectacular.

Blizzard of '96 FTW!

Totally—the blizzard of '96 was nuts!

I also remember that after during a series of storms in 1994, we had about 2 inches of ice built up on the driveway so I had to hack it away with an axe. (I had plenty of time, since my NJ public high school called so many snow days that our school year was extended.)

I thought you went to Stuyvesant and Columbia, what's this NJ high school reference about?

I got majorly creeped out there, as that's my educational path too - I'm like, who the fuck is dude69 and how does he know me?

I grew up in NJ! I graduated from Columbia—Jake went to Stuyvesant.

Don't worry, I am no stalker. Gothamist posts about Columbia and Stuy so many times that I get confused, my bad.

Yeah, the blizzard of '96 was insane. I was supposed to fly out to LA during it to get back to school... and I seem to remember it was about a week worth of delays before I finally got a seat (I was flying ultra-economy student fares back then).

1994 was insane too... We had so many snow days it ate up our Spring break. It was the opposite in 1995, I don't think we had any snow days.

But, yeah, made it in to work today. Not too bad out there...

I lived near Ditmars in Astoria during the blizzard of '96. The N train didn't run to our neighborhood for two days, and Key Food ran out of everything but condiments. None of the stores had much of anything--except all of the Greek fish markets were fully stocked.

I grew up in the midwest. This ain't nothin compared to the snow out there. Though it appears there are plenty of people here who have no idea how to drive in the snow. (Hint: SLOW DOWN!!!)

I got to work to find out that my office was closed. But my boss is here and is making me stay and work.

Blizzard of '77 FTW, young'uns.

true dat-schools were closed for days that time

Let's add Blizzard of 1983 to the mix as well.

It was a pretty brutal walk to the train out in Billyburg this morning, but the L was running fine. Train was nice and empty, too!
I work on 23rd, and Madison Square Park looks really pretty. I'm gonna go out and take some photos at lunch, I think.

If you live by a subway station stop it's just like any other day. If you think about it rainstorms create more problems for the subway station than snowstorms.

I'd like to add the 2006 blizzard to the mix. 27 inches is nothing to sneeze at. BTW, I really enjoyed my commute from Brooklyn to Jersey City today. (sigh)

F train from Brooklyn was a disaster this morning

D train too!

Got to work close to 10am....god I hate snow!
Snow isn't that bad though outside, it's the winds.

D was ugly coming in from Brooklyn and I'm not looking forward to going back this afternoon either. Ugh, maybe if I get a 2 hour head start I'll make it back home by the usual time.

I had no problems on the F this morning from Bergen, in fact, it was great because it was empty! Perhaps the trains were just hit or miss this morning...

Made it from Fordham Road to midtown on the D without issue. Took the 4 to Union Square & back without issue. People who stay home today should be living with their mommies.

Speaking AS a boss -- the brownie points are awarded to those who bother to show up on days like today. And in this economy, you need any points you can get to keep your job. In fact the best things you could do to ensure your job security are:

For the record, the subways were empty this morning, and I was at an 8am breakfast with Senator Schumer as the guest speaker. So if I could get there with no problems, so can most of my employees.

Congrats to all of those who made it in.

In all fairness, I think that everyone deserves day to "play hookie" and act like a child. In an environment where you have people coming in every weekend, working late into the evening, along the way one forgets that they DO have a life outside of work.
While I agree that one should take all appropriate measures to ensure job security, every now and then we have to take a step back and tell ourselves that we are not our jobs! Go to the park, have a sled ride and remember how things were before you felt like every day at work would be your last.

When it comes down to it, I'm not going to want to look back and say "I sacrificed the simple pleasures in the name of brownie points" because in the end, who will actually give a shit? Especially if you come into work, and STILL get fired.

Agreed. Everyone needs to have a fun day in the snow. Life is not all about work, like some people make it out to be. Remember you only live once, might as well and enjoy it.

Spoken like a true rim-job lovin' boss with no life outside of work.
As long as the widgets get out the door, it's all good, right?

I'm a boss, but the CFO gets the call. He wouldn't call a snow day, but stayed home himself. Dink.

Right brownie points you must be some great boss. I hope you get the runs from breakfast with Chuckie boy you fucking brown noser

'96 rocked! I also enjoyed the storm of 2003 and 06...

My boss called me in the morning. "No one else is coming in to the office except me, what about you?"

"Sure I'll be there" :(

Sounds like my boss during the '96 blizzard. I had to quote him stats about the storm in order for him to finally let it go and consider the day a wash. He half wanted it to count as a vacation day.

My commute consists of the 6 train from Canal to 33rd though so it's not like I have a good excuse to miss work. I was only 10 minutes late.

I'm at work, but none of the "bigwigs" are. They're such pussies!

Bah! damn kids get school off, but Cuny is still open

Finally got out of bed and made it to my office which is about fifteen feet away. The trip went fine, no snow or wind to speak of.

Who here remembers the blizzard of'88? 1888 that is. Now that was a blizzard.

Our office is open, and about one in six people showed up. It took me two hours to get to midtown from Eastern Queens.

The guy at my company who decided that this wouldn't be a snow day stayed home. WTF???

I work at home so, sigh... I am at work...

My company closes if NYC public schools close, so I slept in! I really needed it today, too!

Mondays I work at a client's office on Long Island, but they thoughtfully called me this morning to say most of them weren't coming in except a department that starts at 2 pm. So that's good for today, but it means I'll have to make the trip tomorrow and get there earlier than usual to get things done by deadline.

I came into work extra early today since I was out sick last week. When my boss got here, she said, oh no! I was going to call you and tell you to stay home!

Oh, well. I'm here and the commute wasn't bad--plus I get to catch up on all the stuff leftover from last week.

I work in an office building of 500 people and about 1/3 of them are here. No balls.

I'm at work and was here right on time. What excuse do I have not to be here? All the trains were running and there's really not much snow outside.

Made it to work without a problem. In fact, I'd say the trains were running better than normal because there weren't as many people riding today to hold things up.

How about that blizzard of 1732? That was a DOOZY.

I'm not that old but I do remember 1816 "The year without a summer."

1888 had a nippiness about it that was lacking in '63 or '94.

..annnnd just like the morning commute, the evening commute was just as bad on the D line.

That's why we stayed home today:)

Snow is Here—Are You At Work?

Nope. Took a snow day and went sledding with the kids.
