FILM: Put that coffee down! If it's not fair trade, you might as well be drinking a cup of indigent peasants' misery. Eye-opening documentary Black Gold takes as a starting point the disturbing fact that many $3 cups of coffee earn the bean farmer just three cents; while the coffee industry rakes in over $80 billion, that wealth has hardly dripped down. Black Gold explores the inequity through the eyes of an Ethiopian man named Tadesse Meskela, who is struggling to save 74,000 struggling coffee farmers from bankruptcy. The film screens for one night only at 92YTribeca’s new state-of-the-art screening room; Scott Codey from New York Fair Trade Coalition will in attendance. Watch the preview here. — John Del Signore

THEATER: HERE Arts Center kicks off its new new series "Start HERE: Innovative Theater for Young People," with Diva, a remarkably elaborate puppet play performed on a tiny rotating animated set equipped with miniature light systems, music, sound effects and cartoon comics. Suitable for adults and children over 12, the story unfolds "behind the heavy curtains in an old theatre, where the fabulous Diva prepares for this evening's performance. At the same time, hidden deep within the tunnels and halls of the theater, a twisted professor conducts a devious experiment with his machine to produce an elixir formulated to give him a perfect body. On this fateful night, the professor’s assistant Eddie is handed a task that exceeds his talents and he resorts to a dirty trick that ruins the Diva’s performance." ENDS SUNDAY NIGHT! — John Del Signore

Sunday // 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. // HERE Arts Center [145 6th Ave] // Adults $20, children $12
