As Rating Falls, Bloomberg Promises To Bite Chuck Back

2009_02_chuckvsbloom.jpg Fine, maybe the Marist poll revealing that Mayor Bloomberg's approval rating fell seven points is not exactly correlated with his promise to get back at Staten Island Chuck. But on John Gambling's radio show Mayor Bloomberg did (jokingly) discuss revenge and retribution with the creature who bit him on Groundhog Day—"I'm gonna get the little SOB next year. I'm gonna bite him in front of the cameras"—which totally sounds like a way to work his way into the hearts of voters who want to see some sort of smackdown between a billionaire and a little ol' groundhog who just sent the Mayor chocolates for his birthday/Valentine's Day as an apology.

The Marist poll puts his approval rating at 52%; in November, he was at 59%—which was a drop from 68% in a previous Marist poll. Politicker NY writes, "The last time Bloomberg’s job approval rating was in the low 50’s was in August 2005, when 53 percent gave him an excellent or good rating, compared to 46 percent who rated him fair or poor." Marist's polling director Lee Mirringoff chalks up Bloomberg's low numbers to the economy. Bloomberg still bests potential mayoral opponents Anthony Weiner, William Thompson and Tony Avella in matchups.

It's John Gambling's radio show, not Bloomberg's.

Anyway, Bloomberg should be thankful that it's Ground HOG Day and not Ground Chimp Day.

there's no such animal as a 'ground chimp.'

You just have to go to the right butcher shops.

My butcher has a special on primate rib this week.

what do I expect from a Bloomberg who overturn term limits against the people's will and supports bombing of children in gaza?

Israel has the right to protect itself from missile launches.

I find the photo inflammatory and hateful towards groundhogs. This satirical depiction could be construed as the mayor endorsing maiming and mutilating these creatures. Gothamist should know better

ONE GUISE FITS ALL

I miss the old defense
--"The devil made me do it"--
It had a biblical ring
Though some might misconstrue it.

Theology's out of fashion
These oddly godless days
And slippery slips of the tongue
Are "explained" by another phrase.

So those who've self-indicted
And're close to being a con next
Attempt to weasel out with,
"It was taken out of context."

Of course it's possible
These folks are on the level,
In which case what's the choice
But to go and blame the devil?

he's had eight years to fix the economy,
he's part of the problem.

-RNC demonstration
-Overturned term limits
-Supported Lieberman
-Put no limits on the crap developers created
-Is completely out of touch as he travels the world on his PR campaigns
-Yankee Stadium/Citi Field financing
-MTA sucks

Yeah, I see it as a little more than an economy issue.

Yes, but that assumes he can get on the ballot. A recent Times article noted that he's managed to piss off both the Democratic and Republican parties, plus a passel of minor third parties. None of them want to give their ticket to a man who has no loyalty and switches parties seemingly on a whim. First he was a Democrat, then he was a Republican, then he wanted to run for president as an Independent. The theory is that for most of his second term, he didn't expect to run for a third, so he burned a lot of bridges, thinking they couldn't do anything to a lame duck anyway.

Oh, great. Thank you again, MovableType. A post doesn't show up for 30 minutes even after several page reloads, but repost and the original finally shows up. MovableType should spend as much time stomping bugs as they do trying to make the software look better.
