  • City Councilman John Liu thinks the Secret Service should investigate the NY Post over its controversial editorial cartoon.
  • Mayor Bloomberg may have found himself blacklisted from all the parties around town when it comes to getting on the ballot for his mayoral reelection.

  • With word that Rober DeNiro will be the first guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in a little over a week, Defamer digs up some clips of other late night talk shows' debut celebrities to sit in the chair.
  • Amazon users still don't get what/who this Amy Sedaris person is.
  • Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it's all too real—members of Smashing Pumpkins, Hanson, Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne have formed a new band and recorded an album.
  • And is Stephon Marbury passing the time off from the Knicks in LA by riding the bus and doing improv comedy?

YOU FUCKING BITCH, YOU SAY "BANK ROBBERY ON AVENUE A" AND ALL THIS OTHER STUFF, BUT THERE IS NO LINK OR ANYTHING ABOUT IT, ALL YOU SAY IS IT HAPPENED.
DO YOU REALIZE THAT'S FUCKING ANNOYING AND POINTLESS?

It is a list of notable items from the Gothamist Newsmap, which is awesome, not annoying nor pointless.

You need to 'refresh your link'...to Thorazine.

what do you mean so much for sweetpanties? do you want to die?

I wouldn't quite word it like sweetpanty, but I do agree, it is somewhat annoying you list those things but don't give any further information about it.

No more information is given simply because no more is available. The newsmap reports breaking news direct from reports of agencies responding. It's actually one of the few places where that kind of information is available. A great resource, and I'm glad it's here.

Nope, the boring Mets patch design will still be on the jerseys. The new design will appear in other places, but the jerseys will still suck: http://www.metsblog.com/2009/02/19/note-the-2-citi-field-patches/

I have long maintained that listing these police incidents without telling more is pointless. It would be nice if the gothamist folks shut off their computer, grabbed a notepad and pen, and went and interviewed/investigated et al -- real journalism.

For example: What the hell is an "aviation request on East 37th"? Some old biddy wants a flight to Boca???

And then there's the grammar and spelling, but I've given up on that . . .

And then there's the grammar and spelling, but I've given up on that . . .

I'm looking forward to the interview with this Rober DeNiro fellow.

Is "aviation request" a euphemism for something? I'm lost.

Can anyone enlighten me on the coal? I thought solid fuels were banned in NYC. There is a grandfather clause, but it seems dubious that these units have existed for 40 years without modification. My experience is with larger units for power plants, so maybe that's where I'm getting mixed up.

Politburo -- most public school buildings still use coal.

I now appreciate that no more information is available for the newsmap, but what do the descriptions mean?
"police car vs. pedestrian"
"amputation"
"aviation request"

"Aviation request" means that the presence of the Aviation Unit was requested. That is, cops on the ground asked for a helicopter.

"Police car vs. pedestrian" means a cop car hit somebody. More often you'll see "vehicle vs. pedestrian," meaning a car that is not a cop car hit somebody. By now the meaning of "vehicle vs. building" should be clear.

"Amputation" means the same thing it always means.
