Third Small Earthquake in NJ This Month!

2009_02_njquake.jpg Around 1:42 a.m., a 2.3 magnitude earthquake occurred just outside Dover, NJ. This is the third earthquake since February 2 in Morris County—on February 2, there was a 3.0 outside of Morristown and this past Saturday there was a 2.4 near Montville. According to the Star-Ledger, this morning "was felt mostly by people in Denville and Randolph." No injuries or damage were reported either. Here are more details about the quake from the U.S. Geological Survey.

    That was hilarious!

Your parched attempts at humor are just what Gothamist needs.

Please, please, don't stop. What would we do without your daily dose of cleverness???

  • There's a fault line under NYC, but I think the 1000 ft of solid bedrock help us from shaking.

Hogwash. Tectonic plates extend all the way through the crust. 1000 feet of "bedrock" won't help a bit if the plates slip.

Only a 2.3? You can barely feel that.

Does this mean the end is near?! I've also been waiting for the next big NYC hurricane. Aren't we due?
