Mayor Mike, What Are You Doing?

2009_02_miketwitter.jpg Mayor Bloomberg rolled out his official new campaign website today. It's pretty bare bones for the moment, but know this: brother is ready to get down with some social networking. Among the handful of options to explore on the site are links to the mayor's Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Twitter. Let's break that down:

  • Facebook: 7,302 Supporters—solid. But as of right now, the image for his page is the election graphic, not a picture of Bloomberg himself. Are you looking to let your friends' feeds find out that you are supporting a gif and not a man?
  • MySpace: It strikes us as a little "Election '05" to have a prominent MySpace page, but clearly the mayor wants the youth vote. And no offense to "Lady Jamerican", but he may want to look at his Top 8. No Christine Quinn? Or even his good friend Whoopi Goldberg?
  • YouTube: Only 8 subscribers to his channel right now. We're just saying.
  • Twitter: This is huge. The mayor has entered into the world of tweeting. Now the question remains: will Bloomberg himself update exactly "what he is doing" or will he just have staff do it. (Dr. Drew recently served a Burn Notice to Anderson Cooper for doing just that.) And of course, the bigger question remains: will he follow Shaq as close as Shaq follows him?

As for the site itself, the campaign seems primarily concerned with signing up volunteers at this point. When learning "About Mike" in order to find motivation as to "Why Volunteer," we learn about his leadership after 9/11 and big victory for reelection in 2005, but would you believe there's no mention of his heroic push to rewrite the term limits laws in the face of economic meltdown just so that this very site could exist?

And CityRoom thinks that the site might be a little too Flash heavy for "less savvy internet users." Even those who have been around the block might get frustrated with the amount of time it takes to load.

I wonder how many tens of millions of dollars Mike will spend on his reelection campaign this time.

He twisted arms to get on the ballot again and will buy city hall again. Billionaires are immune to recessions, as pigs are to snakes' venom.

Amidst a sea of cuts, Bloomberg feels like it's wise to spend $45M specifically to help bankers.

If you vote for Bloomberg, you're saying you agree with this:
www.newser.com/story/51191/nyc-wants-to-turn-laid-off-bankers-into-entrepreneurs.html

Sorry, but bankers should be the last to receive help, especially if it's a super-cushy job when everyone else has to get unemployment or find a real job. Bankers have lived the high life long enough.

Bloomberg's rationale for helping bankers is the same tired, old trickle-down economic theories that have been proven to fail (hence our current economic turmoil).

It's not surprising that Bloomberg prioritizes Wall Street and bankers over everyone else. You get what you vote for.

Bloomberg could be defeated if Obama helps by giving the Democratic mayoral challenger access to Obama's New York Presidential campaign staff, donors, technology, voter lists, and community organizers. This all depends if the Democrats can find someone charismatic and competent enough to be mayor.

our society values the wrong things by electing bloomberg mayor.

NEW WORLD TO CONQUER

Because Venezuela's dumped term limits,

"There's nothing that can block us,"

Says ever-eager Mike Bloomberg,

"From election in Caracas."
