New Poll Shows Voters Prefer Cuomo to Paterson

A new Quinnipiac poll has more bad news for embattled Governor Paterson. Not only has his approval rating fallen seven points to 41%, if Paterson were to run against Attorney General Andrew Cuomo in the 2010 gubernatorial primary, Cuomo would win, 53-25. Politicker NY runs through some other details: "Rudy Giuliani's favorability rating, however, stands at 56 percent. In a hypothetical matchup for governor, Giuliani ties Paterson 43 to 43. Cuomo would win a race against Giuliani 51 to 37, the poll found." Of course, there's still almost 18 months till the primary—anything can happen. But if Cuomo's appearances are anything like this one, he is totally eyeing his dad's old job.

Patterson's dithering on the Senate seat selection only served to make him look weak and indecisive, as well as angering the friends and families of the Kennedys, the Cuomos and the Clintons.

His father would have made allies of them, not enemies.

A year? So this is how long we give our Executive officials to turn an entire state like NY around? Common give me a break! There is a reason why the US and state constitution gives them 4yr terms. And with this legislature...common Spiritof76 Get real...your in la la land if u think anyone can walk in and make changes in Albany, especially in these times.

So what are you saying, give him all four years? We can't expect any results whatsoever until the end of a term? I ask again, point out one success he's had. Just one. He's gotten some stuff done, but has he done anything good? There's the good, old Amazon tax. Oh, wait, all that's done is turn off a lot of New Yorkers from buying from Amazon and Buy.com. And Newegg and Overstock.com have kicked all New York affiliates out, so a bunch of New Yorkers have lost a lot of income. Brilliant. There are those wonderful ideas that he has to tax soft drinks and pornography. Do you want to palm those off on the legislature, too?

Admit it, Paterson's in a state of meltdown, as a piece here on Gothamist noted a couple of days ago. This is a governor who can't govern worth a damn. More than a few people are now pining for the days of Spitzer.

I think this is one of the things that suck about our country. If u dont deliver instantly, you're considered a failure. When are people and the media gonna get that New York State has been fck-ed up for a long time with tons of earmarks and programs. You can't expect Paterson (who one night went to bed not knowing that the next morning he would be Governor) to be able to come in a fix the Empire State's fck-ed up budget system. If people in NY want stuff to change...start firing your dumb ass State Assemblymen and Senators who go to Albany instead of giving them a lifelong job. But noooo New Yorkers wont do that for fear of changing the system...PLEASEEEE

I bet Cuomo is happy now that Paterson didn't pick him for the Senate. He has the chance to be absolute top dog in the state, something he couldn't do if he was a senator.
