Video: NYC Stores Caught Mislabeling Fur

Fashion Week is in full effect and The Humane Society of the United States is watching out for our furry friends, as usual. This morning the organization led a press conference with NY State Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal following an investigation that uncovered some big NYC retailers selling unlabeled fur-trimmed garments in violation of state law (which requires that all apparel with real or fake fur be labeled as such, giving shoppers access to product information). All the big names were on their list, including Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. Footage of the investigation shows what may happen to confused customers:

This morning Rosenthal stated that she "passed this law to ensure that consumers in New York could make informed decisions about the type of clothing they are buying. Many people prefer not to wear animal fur, and they should be able to tell at a glance whether an article of clothing is made with fur or not. Retailers have had more than a year to comply with this law, and it is appalling that so many have disregarded it." Just last November the HSUS filed suit against a number of major retailers including Macy's, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue for mislabeling fur. The organization's VP Michael Markarian declared that there's "widespread deception in the fashion industry, and consumers simply don’t know whether they’re buying synthetic fur, or fur from animals skinned alive in China." Here's a gruesome look at the fur trade.

To me wearing fake fur is akin to actually wearing fur - it's promoting the culture of fur. It's like a person who doesn't believe in doing drugs owning a bong.

um, no, fur looks nice and is warm, and fake fur is the same.
it looks nice.

real fur is gross and unnecesary, so wearing fake fur is pretty and warm without being cruel, what the hell are you an idiot

thank you for posting this. i do agree with arnie on his point-wearing fake fur is promoting the look...

anyone who wears fur or fur trim is a total idiot

I still can hear the cries of the cats holding each other in the cage, and the man torn them apart and skin them alive. (youtube video) There is no excuse for this cruelty and for those who hate animals so much then what about humans? Do you really want to live in a society where it is ok to be so brutal? Violence begets Violence. And for those who are so religious, God did not give us animals to torture them.

This entire earth was given to us by God for use. Animals were made to entertain us and to use them however we want. We are superior to anything else on earth, and everything else is for us. Animals have no souls, if you think they do, its just evil trying to rip you away from God.

God would never promote torture. that is evil. God is about love and you have no love in you if you can skin animal alive for his fur. that is perverse and God is not perverse.

I love wearing fur, leather, and eating all types of meat ~including fois gras ~and totally enjoy everything else which benefits my life that is produced from animal crops. I dont care what anyone thinks or advocates, every single day of my life will consist of using animal products for my personal comfort from now until the end of my time here on this earth just as it has since the day I was born.

Mimi, i don't care if you eat meat or wear leather shoes from that cows hide but do you honestly not care if your fur items come from cat + dogs that are skinned alive just for their fur? Most are stolen pets. Hooked like fish.

Oh yeah, and ducks are force fed so you can eat your fois gras and the unused baby birds are tossed into a moving belt like useless scraps you ignorant fool. Get your facts about where your food/clothes come from and be a little more appreciative of the lives taken for your pleasure.
I'm quite sure your life would not suffer in anyway if you never ate it again.

Mimi, because you are ignorant, you would obviously love wearing dead animals and eating dead animals but maybe you shouldn't be so proud of it. Hopefully you will somehow one day think about another living thing besides yourself if you ever get slaughtered for your meat and skin.

Is it just me or do "pete" and "mimi" sound like comment trolls here to ignite the ole Animal Activists vs. Animal Exploiters once again? Let's hope that's the case. And I guess it worked on me again, too!

So regardless of who "pete" and "mimi" are...

Pete,
Yes, you are almost directly quoting Ann Coulter. And It's pretty easy to conclude that you're the one with no soul from what you've written. Your lack of soul would surely rip YOU away from God(ess), no? So please, everyone pray to your respective entity that Pete stil gets the afterlife he anticipates despite being souless.

Mimi,
According to you you've been exploiting animals since the day you were born? And proud of it? Well congratulations on growing up to predictably become a shallow, vapid adult who lacks critical thinking skills. I'm sure you are just what quality people look for first when looking for a mate. I'm sure you're just lovely!

If Pete & Mimi are real, and both hetero, they should tooootally get together! That would be so super cool!

Does society really need them reproducing?????

I have a faux fur jacket, but I don't think the faux is in danger any more. I know a few years ago the faux almost became extinct, but thanks to the "Save the Faux Society", they have proliferated and we can all proudly wear faux.

It funny how they have to create new alias to put their offensive remarks, they know wearing fur is perverse and cruel and created alias to post those sick remarks

MzEnigmatic, yeah well I was going to add something trite about them not reproducing, like: "Oh we should PRAY they don't reproduce," but it's obvious that stupid people all over the world don't listen and choose to continually curse us with their demented offspring. There's no way to stop them.
