THEATER: Axis Company, the lush and inviting little West Village theater that's one of our favorite spaces in town, is presenting an encore performance of East 10th Street: Self Portrait With Empty House, a play by and about "legendary" downtown theater performer Edgar Oliver. A fixture of the East Village performance art scene for decades, Oliver's autobiographical show chronicles his life in the strange tenement he's inhabited since he first moved to New York, where his neighbors include a dwarf Cabalist, a possible Nazi, and the landlord's former wet nurse "who apparently lives in a nest of rags." "East 10th Street" was a hit when it originally premiered at Axis last year (Backstage said it had the "atmosphere of séance"), and Oliver could soon make it big with a role in Jared Hess's film Gentlemen Broncos, opposite Sam Rockwell. — John Del Signore
