Alomar Denies Suit Charges, Claims "Good Health"

2009_02_alomar.jpg Former Mets second baseman and perennial All-Star throughout the '90s has called the lawsuit filed against him by his ex-girlfriend "full of lies." The suit filed by longtime girlfriend Ilya Dahl claims that he insisted on having unprotected sex with her while having "full-blown AIDS." His lawyer called it "a frivolous lawsuit," but that Alomar wishes to keep his health status private. In Alomar's own statement, he called it a "private, personal matter" and added, "I am in very good health and I ask that you respect my privacy during this time."

Friends and family were also rather indirect when speaking of his health status. Alomar's father, Mets coach Sandy Alomar Sr., still hasn't spoken to his son since the story yesterday's story which he had said was "the first he had ever heard of that." He later told the News, "We just don't know the whole story. We know our kids, but sometimes we just don't know what they do. I haven't seen him sick. As a matter of fact, he's doing exercise daily." Alomar's current girlfriend added, "He has never gotten sick on me. We train together. And he has those beautiful, well-defined arms."

The Times speaks to a friend of Alomar's who tells them that Dall and Alomar lived together in "a lavish house" in the Whitestone section of Queens for seven years. Current girlfriend Maripily Rivera claims that when Dall and Alomar broke up this past fall, Dall said to him, "I will destroy you." Dall, a massage therapist, still appears to live in the same house that the two allegedly shared.

Alomar retired in 2005 and is eligible for Hall of Fame balloting next year, which he is likely to be voted into on his first try. Despite a career as what most baseball writers would agree was the best of any second baseman in his generation, many fans remember it tainted by the incident in 1996 where he spit in the face of umpire John Hirschbeck and was suspended for five games. While it is still unconfirmed, many claim that tape of the incident showed Hirschbeck calling Alomar a "faggot" to prompt his reaction. In the suit filed, Dall says that he confided in her that "he was raped by two Mexican men after playing a ballgame in New Mexico or a Southwestern state when he was 17.'"

Alomar's health status aside, it does seem to sound like a shakedown.

Great 2B during his day - but probably not a first ballot HOF'er.

No matter what his HIV status is, the former girlfriend is sick and disgusting and belongs in a sewer.
