Victor Willis—former "police officer" in The Village People, recovering coke addict, and ex-husband of Phylicia Rashad—has filed a lawsuit against the new Village People, seeking at least $1 million and a court order preventing them from using his image or voice. Willis wrote the lyrics for many of the original Village People hits (such as Y.M.C.A.) but left the group for good in the early '80s. The manufactured "band" continues to this day with a mostly different lineup, and Willis contends that Sixuvus Ltd., a New York company that promotes them, is illegally replicating his likeness and voice. According to the AP, he's also suing the William Morris Agency and Can't Stop Productions, which owns the trademark to the band's name. Oh, and several venues where the new group has performed are also being sued by Willis, as well as, presumably, everyone who's ever raised their arms to make a "Y."

I thought all the Village People were gay.
He was only married to her for 2 years 78-80.
Phylicia Rashad is a man, baby!
I didn't think anyone could make the Village People any gayer than the original (not that there's anything wrong with that), but they did.
Pay the man.
Victor Willis you are NOT the Father!!!
Talk about cranky. Maybe he needs to get back on the coke and chill out. Whatever the Village People were, he can't have back so let it go brutha and have another line...
I say they get into a vogue dance competition to determine the winner.
My favorite VP was always Randy, the cowboy.
Still milking the character for all he can get (http://www.randyjonesworld.com/), he's aging reasonably well...except his plastic surgeon forgot to do his eyes.
They seem to be closed or closing in every photo on his web site.
I met his daughter once at a party in college; she was a nice person, very proud of her dad's musical legacy, and mighty fine looking.
I just thought I should mention that, for any completists.
I thought cops got a pretty good pension. What's the problem here?
He was apparently too busy polising his buddies' service revolvers to fill out the paperwork.
