Schumer Touts Stimulus Package

2009_02_schumer.jpg Senator Charles Schumer, who has been championing what NYC and NY State will get from the federal stimulus package even before there was an agreement for its passage, is naturally thrilled Republicans have come around to add their support. There will be $5 billion in Medicaid funding, as well as mass transit infrastructure money. Newsday reports that the senior Senator from NY admitted, "[The plan] doesn't mean there won't be any pain, but it means instead of using a meat ax, they can use a scalpel." Given the jobs the money will help spur (or maintain), he said, "For the first time, New Yorkers can feel proud and walk tall, because the federal government is coming to our aid."

"For the first time, New Yorkers can feel proud and walk tall, because the federal government is coming to our aid."

Great. So more unionized workers, bureaucrats, and Chucky will be rescuing us. I now will 2000000 times worse.

Yeah... proud...right. Fuck you Schumer... Please just go away. The MTA needs a good housecleaning-not billions to squander. Does this mean the Fulton Street Transit Hub will get the much needed glass dome? Oh the Second Avenue Subway line could get built YIPPEEEEE!

  • Rfive

It hurts that the gov't is giving money to the MTA. They WILL squander it and misuse the funds. Another miserable cycle which will never end...

  • Endless Ike

fucking weasel...Explain to me how we should feel proud to be on the dole?

talk about getting things exactly backwards. I'd be a lot more proud if we had our fiscal house in order and didn't need any money from anyone.

  • Brainwash

    That is a great picture.

This jagoff's actions helped create the problem to begin with.

Indeed. Senator Blabbermouth should be in jail after he sparked a run on IndyMac Bank a few months ago causing the bank to fail and people to lose their savings.

Wow, if that picture doesn't capture the very essence of the crafty ---....

Just think how much could be spent on really improving things if the damn thing wasn't filled with pork.

  • David McCaffredy

NY-ers would walk taller if their agencies weren't so corrupt. I have full confidence the MTA will still find a way to squander their cut.

  • Think2wice

Only on the condition that the MTA be under the same scrutiny as the banks collecting the second half of TARP should state lawmakers approve the Ravitch Commission's recommendations and/or dole out the stimulus money.

The Federal government only gives you back a bit of what they've already taken from you. But of course a lot of people still fall for the old shell game.

  • Yeah, it's much better to sit on the sidelines and do nothing, Right?

I have yet to see what you would do, other then bitch and complain that is.

It's not a perfect plan, but much better than not providing leadership at all. Hey, that describes the last Administration, doesn't it?

    Um, yes.
