NYPD Standoff in East Elmhurst

2009_02_pstandoff.jpg The police are currently trying to negotiate with an emotionally disturbed man in the East Elmhurst section of Queens. The police have been in contact with the man since 10 p.m. last night: According to WCBS 2, "Police said a 911 call was made of a man ranting and raving out of a home on 2504 Humphrey Street...The man fired several shots in the general vicinity of officers around 11:45 p.m., police said. One bullet kicked up off the ground and debris struck the ankle of one of the cops." And WABC 7 reports other shots were fired later. The police have closed the streets and evacuated other residents from their homes.
