Potential House Arrest for Scamming Lawyer

2009_02_dreierhl.jpg Marc Dreier, the once prominent attorney accused of swindling hundreds of millions from hedge funds and investors alike, was given bail by a federal judge yesterday. However, the NY Times reports, "The conditions set by the judge are so restrictive that even if Mr. Dreier posts the $10 million bond that the judge required — which could happen by early next week — Mr. Dreier would be holed up in what might be considered a fancy prison." Well, Dreier's lawyer did want a Madoff-like bail! Among the restrictions proposed: An electronic monitoring device, a security guard, approval of visitors and "no call forwarding, no modem, no caller ID, no call waiting and no wireless phone."

I notice you use 'scamming' and 'lawyer' in the same sentence as if they were two different concepts.

    Whoa...dude needs a shave.

I'm confused. Since when was Bill Murray a lawyer?

  • How about the "no plastic surgeon to make you look like someone else so you can sneak out of house arrest and flee from the country"? I guess I've seen too many movies.

  • (sigh)

I'm amazed that judges will allow "House Arrest" when, IMO, anyone else off the street would get jailed...

No modem? No Commodore-64 either, I bet.
