Poster Boy Talks

0209pboy.jpg Is Poster Boy angling to be street art's Keyser Söze? He's only fooling the Paper of Record so far, after a friend of the artist told them “Poster Boy can be anybody.” Mysterious!

In the meantime, he's spoken out in a new interview at the Public Ad Campaign. Trying to misdirect the heat some more, he refers to himself in the third person, explaining, "Henry Matyjewicz was arrested Friday night at 7:30pm, sent to central booking, then sent to Rikers. He was bailed on Sunday night, and was released Monday 2am."

He goes on to talk about his Henry's arrest and how "It feels good to exploit the NYPD," but finishes up name-checking the real enemy, declaring: "The only thing that could match the NYPD's shit investigation is the New York Post's shit reporting. Of course I'm not surprised. It's the New York Post." The paper had asked for a comment from him after already labeling him "Boaster Boy" but he told them: "dream on." We contacted the artist asking why he's trying to dodge the rap and if he regrets not keeping a lower profile, but have yet to hear back.

Why do i not believe he is responsible for the thousands of these across the city? I mean, all you do is pull the tape off. I think lots of people do it.

nice action shot...but honestly who cares?

his two minutes are over. too bad he didn't have real talent. he could have a career.

"Artist"? This guy is considered an artist?

"Why do i not believe he is responsible for the thousands of these across the city? I mean, all you do is pull the tape off. I think lots of people do it."

Yep, certainly true. For one thing you can see a lot of it in different places that's really amateurish compared to some of the pics on the posterboy flickr account.

And what he's saying in these interviews is a smart legal strategy to help the guy who was arrested, whether it's really "him" or not. Police arrested Matyjewicz because they overheard him talking about the techniques while working on one legally that was posted on the wall at the event. They never saw that guy doing anything illegal, and even have said that they have no idea what the "posterboy" they're looking for actually looks like. That's why they had resort to listening to conversations at an event where they'd been told he would be, instead of just arresting him as soon as he walked in.

Hard to see how a conviction can come out of this.

I'm with Matty & JaycJay I'm about 100% sure that this is a city full of poster boys.

Well, someone took that promo photo.

What do subway ad vandals and tax-dodging Charlie Rangel have in common?

They hate The Post, alright...

"The only thing that could match the NYPD's shit investigation is the New York Post's shit reporting. Of course I'm not surprised. It's the New York Post."

"Rangel, who previously called out the Times for ignoring facts regarding his recent scandals, says that two investigations that led to reports in the Post came from investigations by the conservative-oriented National Legal Policy Center...

Rangel said, “Newspapers forwent actual, independent reporting, and instead relied on this organization to do the dirty work for them."
