It's another one for the "weird smell file"...okay, maybe we know what that funny smelling cigarette odor is—but where is it coming from?! All signs point to Gerritsen Beach, where last month "10 marijuana summonses were written in one night." The Village Voice reports that "the locals told the cops 'pot dealing & smoking goes on all the time' there, and the problem was discussed until the property owners decided that 'a list of names will be gathered and handed over to the 61st precinct of the problem kids.'" Given the small community vibe, it might be a good idea to make some industrial strength blow tubes and keep it inside, kids.

Meanwhile the residents get all boozed up at that fabulous dockside bar.
Looks like the Dockside closed... http://www.gerritsenbeach.net/2009/02/02/dockside-closed/
Yeah, then go home, run over a few dogs, and beat their wives. What a bunch of assholes. LEGALIZE IT!!!
I have never seen an issue so one-sided as marijuana legalization. When I used to visit right-wing sites for fun, even those comments were overwhelmingly pro-legalization! I don't know if there's any other law or policy that is so universally opposed.
If anyone out there still supports the status quo, especially in NYC, I'd love a shout out. Anyone?
Unfortunately I think this is one issue where there really is a silent majority.
If you take a look at legalization debates on say, Daily Kos, you will eventually find a few people who will voice their support of the status quo. I know of one specifically whose friend had an issue with pot, and therefore no one should ever be allowed to have it. No number of people can convince this person that their line of thinking is completely irrational and can be used to ban to any number of behaviors/substances.. and this person is otherwise completely rational. It really blows the mind.
Obviously this is just one anecdote.. other people have other reasons, to be sure.
adeez... Note the resounding silence...
I hope to see this great hypocrisy corrected in my lifetime! When the prohibition of alcohol was lifted, it was a huge boon to the economy. New companies were started, land was purchased, equipment, etc... The government taxed it, obviously, and revenue started streaming in.
Furthermore, legalization would really stick it to the vicious Mexican (and American) drug gangs that profit from the very contraband nature of this almost harmless (actually beneficial) PLANT.
Let's take another step forward together, America!
Sometimes you just don't want to smell your neighbor's weed, especially if they smoke up eeevery single morning and night.
Insert Michael Phelps joke here?
