Last night Robert Thurman's annual Tibet House benefit concert took to Carnegie Hall, featuring performances by Antibalas, The National (who performed two new, untitled songs), Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Angelique Kidjo, Keb' Mo', Philip Glass, and his son Zack (whose performance served as an alternate answer to that age old question, how does one get to Carnegie Hall).
The Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery started things off, with each band that followed playing two songs, and the night culminating with an all-star encore. Following the concert, the crowd moved over to Roseland Ballroom for an post-show dinner party. The venue never looked so good, more wedding hall than rock hall, and guests were treated to an open bar, a never-ending buffet of sweet and savory dishes, and a well-stuffed gift bag. No cameras were allowed at the event, but it seems a Patrick McMullen photographer was given access, check out his shots here. Heads up for next year: the concert + dinner ticket price is just around $100 and well worth the money.

When a bunch of great musicians get together for a worthy cause, you can be sure that the event would be a doozy and the money raised misspent. And in the end the cause will turn out to be suspect. I scratch my ass for Tibet.

Article is wrong though.. the party is a bit more expensive than $100.. good thing is that most of the cost of the party tickets gets you a tax write off..
