Blago Meets Letterman

In what might be the peak of the impeached former Ililnois governor's media whirlwind, Rod Blagojevich appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. He walked out towards Letterman to the tune of "My Way" (video) and Letterman wasted no time:

Letterman: "Why exactly are you here, honest to God?

Blagojevich: "Well, you know, I've been wanting to be on your show in the worst way for the longest time."

Letterman: "Well, you're on in the worst way, believe me." (audience laughs, applauds)

Blagojevich: "I sure am."

Letterman: "There's no getting around that."

Blagojevich: "Well, I figured I had to get impeached and thrown out of office to get the chance to get invited by you."

We bet Letterman is hoping former Governor Spitzer is taking note, in case the ol' Steamroller wants to make the media rounds. Anyway, Letterman offered this assessment, "I'm not a pundit or an expert, but I saw you - I saw you on 'The View,' I saw you on the Rachel Maddow Show, I saw you on the Today Show, I saw you, I think, every other show that is in production currently," (audience laughs) "and the more you talked and the more you repeated your innocence, the more I said to myself, 'Oh, this guy is guilty.'"

Blago did win some points, saying, after some of the wiretapped conversations were played, "I was afraid you were gonna have some of those other tapes, where I sound like Christian Bale."

Amazing - this guy has become a walking breathing parody of himself...and Blagojevich is no different either...

Hey, I may be a scumbag and the poster boy for corruption in government, but I can make a few self-deprecating jokes about it and now it's all good, right?

Hey look, a melgomaniac sociopath.

He is obviously someone who craves attention and doesn't care if it is good or bad. Those kind of people are either crazy or politicians.

He did it because he needed to pay his back-taxes.

He's the Kato Kaelin of government.

Why does this remind me of Dave's amazing Paris Hilton post- prison interview? Bravo.

why isn't this guy in jail again?

He hasn't had a trial yet. He won't be tried for another year.

You know, I think he handled himself well. Unfortunately it's not going to do anything for him. Victim or not a victim he pissed off the wrong people and he's fucked now.

"Blagojevich: "Well, I figured I had to get impeached and thrown out of office to get the chance to get invited by you."

Hmm. Maybe then GW Bush ran the U.S. economy into the ground in a desperate bid to get onto the Conan O'Brien Show.

And of course -true to form- he failed in that too.
