Word has leaked that in an episode for the upcoming season of the FX firefighter drama Rescue Me, the womanizing fireman Franco—one of the show's main characters—espouses theories that 9/11 was an inside job, carried out as part of a neoconservative plot to change the definition of "preemptive attack" and control the world's oil. The Times says that it marks "the first fictional presentation of 9/11 conspiracy theories by a mainstream media company." Star of the show Denis Leary says that the scene is not far off from scenes in actual fire houses "where some of the younger members don’t even have to completely buy into the theory of 9/11 being an inside job, but want to discuss it."
What is more striking than the fictional plot line is that the show is using the real-life conspiracy beliefs of the actor who plays Franco, Daniel Sunjata, to promote the storyline. In a press tour, Sunjata said that he “absolutely, 100 percent” supports the assertion that “9/11 was an inside job.”
The Kansas City Star dug further and discovered that Sunjata's beliefs don't stop there. Last year at a rally for Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, the actor stated the following in a speech:
"A government that will tell you that air is safe to breathe after a national emergency when they know that there is asbestos floating around in the air...is a government that has no regard for human life...If they do that to open Wall Street just three days after the 9/11 attacks...it's not a far leap to think that they would have pulled off the attack themselves. Obviously they're psychopathic sadists with absolutely no regard for human life...(During 9/11 memorial telecasts), you know that there's somebody sitting back—some media executive, some military intelligence expert...knowing that they themselves had a hand in carrying it off, in planning it, in murdering the very people."
Executive Producer Peter Tolan says that the show thought it would be interesting to use subject matter that Sunjata (a Tony nominee who also played Reggie Jackson in The Bronx is Burning) was so well-read and passionate about. Below is the clip of Sunjata's entire speech from the campaign rally.
Former NJ Governor Christie Todd Whitman was found not to be liable for asserting that air was safe following the attacks. A report last year addressed one of Sunjata's main criticisms, the alleged destruction of Tower 7. And last summer celebrities such as Ed Asner and musical group Arrested Development allied themselves with the group 911 Truth in calling for a new 9/11 investigation.

dats wassup.
So this story is confirming there are still nutjobs in the world, move on.
Amazing how many trusting, uninformed, apathetic morons there is here. Of course 9/11 was an inside job. To think the Pentagon,FBI,CIA,NSA,NORAD,DOD,and everybody else, not to mention foreign intelligence agencies, were just incompetent that morning is ludacris. That's just being dumb. We have been lied to, over and over. Steel reinforced skyscrapers don't melt and free-fall to a puddle of molten steel from jet fuel. It's impossable. You can't fudge science. These were definitely controlled demolitions. WTF up all you dumb shits. Do a little research or shut up and go back to American Idol.
9/11 was an 'inside job' insofar as we equipped and trained OBL to fight Soviets, gave our (oil) money to Saudis who fund alQueda, and have given Israel carte blanche.
you have got to be shitting me. i am an iraq veteran and trust me all you left wing nuts, this was NOT an inside job. these people want to kill you and your family more than anything else in the world. keep watching cnn and claiming to be experts on the issue at hand. let me guess...chris mathews told you. oh wow! idiots.
you sound pretty ignorant yourself...the only place you'll actually find people that support this theory are back rooms of internet forums...99% of left wingers will call these people nutjobs also.
If you ever quit watching Fox News and listening to Rush (I hope you don't actually listen to that ranting fool) you'd know that CNN and even MSNBC don't report this BS. Matthews can be a nut at times, but he's no worse than Hannity.
And people who do believe this stuff...I can only attribute it to willful ignorance of evidence. People don't have to take the governments word for it, but they should take what civil engineers have to say about it pretty seriously.
right, and in what way am i ignorant? you yourself just said that Mathews "can be a nut at times". in what way was what i said ignorant? trust me, hannity, rush, mathews, colmes, any of these talking head morons have NO IDEA what is happening over there. but i guess you know more than i do...ignorance.
alright I'll back off since you acknowledged both sides, but only mentioning cnn and msnbc it smelled like the makings of a, what are they called, dittoheads?
and talking heads do occasionally bring up good points, but yeah, nothing can be taken at face value from them.
It might as well have been an inside job given the foolish errors and disasterous foreign policy blunders that Bush applied to the matter. Did you fucks win anything in Iraq? Did you catch Bin Laden? Did you do anything except salute the flag and send us the bill? Go away, loser.
Funny.. how many foreign policy blunders did Bush make when 9/11 happened?
And just because mass media doesn't report all the schools, hospitals, quality-of-life improvements we've done in Iraq doesn't mean it didn't happen.
It's easier to sell headlines when it's "### US soldiers killed in Iraq!" instead of "### schools built in Iraq!". Have you also forgotten about that time Iraq invaded Kuwait? Or that time they gassed all those Kurds? How about all those times Clinton ordered bombing runs in Iraq?
Let's also assume for a minute that paveparadise is indeed a vet.. he's a loser?!? Really?
HAHAHA us "fucks. I am indeed an iraq vet. i served in the marine corps from 2003 to 2007 and i am proud to say so. the funny thing is that the internet allows people to claim to be something they are not without anyone knowing. yes i did salute my flag, OUR flag. i did not send you the bill except for the friends of mine that came home in body bags, and there was no shortage of that. and no, i am sorry i did not catch bin laden. but neither has the cia, nsa, fbi, or any other top intel agency in the united states. as far as winning anything, we did our best with what we had. we built schools, irrigation canals, set up security checkpoints, created jobs within the police and government. i would love to see you walk up to a 20 something combat veteran and say "hey you stupid fuck! did you win or do anything in iraq/afghanistan?" lights out.
Typical right wing thug. Go live in Serbia if you can't handle opposing views, "patriot".
And you're acting like a typical left-wing douche. So that makes you just as bad--if not worse--than who you're calling a right-wing thug.
Man.. talk about not handling opposing views!
I can handle any view, I just am so very sick of all the teary flag waving hypocrisy for a bunch of losers that think that "schools and sewers" are how a conquering master properly subjugates a defeated colony of slaves.
Did you know that many--if not most--of the insurgents in Iraq aren't even native Iraqis?
I know the media liked to downplay that.. I mean who wants to see dead Chechens, Syrians, Iranians, Palestinians, Libyans, and Arabians when they could be looking at dead Americans, right?
Thank God for Al-Jazeera!
How do you think the families of all those hostages whose beheadings were videotaped feel? Note that almost all of them WERE civilian engineers (the pay, I've heard, was quite hefty if you could land an engineering job there) or reporters or translators.
And apparently the insurgents in Iraq sure learned quite a bit from Saddam, because a lot of the things he used to do, they (the insurgents) still do to the everyday folks.
Were you there? Did you actually see that stuff? My Noam Chomsky book tells me that all of that stuff is a media fabrication. I believe Al Jazeera because their newscasts use much more urgent and dramatic sounding music.
truthers, creationists and scientologists complete what is known as the 'axis of stupid'
I believe ABC peddled this crap for awhile. The View? Rosie?
The war on terror is over. I call for a full withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama is a chickenhawk, he is putting the lives of military personnel in jeopardy in a needless and illegal war. So are all you liberals going to sign up to fight the 'good war' in Afghanistan? Which by the way, is only the most difficult battlefield on the planet.
Does anyone even still watch this show? The first season or two were great, then it jumped the shark. I think even FX became embarrassed by it.
"Pathetic" isn't the right word, as it implies empathy on my part, doesn't it?
Actually, "Pathetic" relates to the ability to ellicit pathos, not empathy, so it could very well be the correct word.
Amazing all the emotions this subject stirs up. It's certainly understandable to think conspiracy theorists are nuts given that they're in the minority. That's how humans work, myself included: What the majority subscribes to is considered to be truth.
If you take a minute to really look, though, there are some VERY fishy things about those events on 9/11 that defy any kind of reasonable scientific explanation. As an engineer and a pilot myself, I'm convinced that things didn't go as we're led to believe. I don't waste my time with theorizing on what or who did what, but I can see with my own eyes that the official story is bogus. Thousands of legitimate scientists, engineers, pilots, military specialists, and government officials think so too (on top of thousands more illegitimate nutcases, of course).
Look it up, it's not so unbelievable.
And thousands of legitimate scientists, engineers, pilots, etc. say the truthers are insane. Sorry, it's just too big of an "inside job" for someone not to say something. Looking at the past eight years of ineptitude, it should be stunningly obvious there is no way they could have pulled off something that huge.
I'm speaking only of the physical events.
It's beyond my expertise to imagine how such a thing could have been done without being uncovered. I've read explanations for this that seem reasonable but it's not for me to say. Way out of my league.
But it's plainly obvious that the physical events did not occur as we're supposed to believe. Some things are debatable and we just don't have enough evidence. But the Pentagon crash is sort of the litmus test for all of this. It's impossible to believe a 757 crashed into that building when the damage just doesn't match. Nobody has ever addressed those issues directly (saying someone saw it or there's no other explanation simply doesn't count) and there's no video of it happening.
The other sanity check is that this stuff is all over foreign mainstream media. I'm talking countries more educated and conservative than us, not outliers. Like I said, it's easy to believe whatever everyone around you believes. But elsewhere where people have access to more diverse media they know something isn't right. I'm often asked about this when I travel and I have to repeatedly tell people that Americans don't see this stuff in our media.
"Sorry, it's just too big of an "inside job" for someone not to say something."
Clearly, you rely on conjecture to form your opinions; how sad. By your logic, the Manhattan Project never would have been secret. Let's also not forget Operation Gladio, Operation Ajax, and Project SHAD. Oh, let's not forget that the Gulf of Tonkin incident has been declassified now.. the US blew up their own ship and blamed it on Viet Nam and no one knew..
"Looking at the past eight years of ineptitude, it should be stunningly obvious there is no way they could have pulled off something that huge."
You're affirming the consequent.. What is it with you people and your love of logical fallacies?
Please, educate yourself on a subject before you speak on it. Is that really so hard?
You're using a logical fallacy. More does not = correct. Look up: Appeal to the Majority.
Anyone who would campaign for Cynthia McKinney belongs on Wards Island in a cell next to her.
In addition to claiming 9/11 was an inside job, Cynthia McKinney has publicly claimed that Hurricane Katrina was an inside job. "Unnamed sources" told her the government used the storm as a cover to execute 5,000 prison inmates and bury them in an undisclosed swamp. Yup. Let's not forget the time she begged the Saudis to give back the $10 million check Giuliani told them to shove up their ass, or the time she assaulted a Capitol police officer.
Denis Leary is similarly vile: the only reason he's allowed to make TV shows and not scrounging for meth in a Boston alleyway right now is he stole his whole act, some parts nearly verbatim, from Bill Hicks. Throw in Ed Asner and some one hit wonders from 16 years ago and we have quite the conspiracy team.
It's impossible to believe a 757 crashed into that building when the damage just doesn't match.
As I do whenever I read something like this, I ask you "What should the damage have looked like?" I don't expect an answer. I wouldn't want the seven and a half year unbeaten streak ended.
Please give an example of what we are missing. I read plenty of foreign news and have yet to come across anything with actual facts and evidence contradicting the official story.
Why can't you people get along and say the government and the conspiracy nuts are both right? Maybe the towers did fall because of an extraordinary fire... set by those who cooked up the whole thing. Maybe the Pentagon was hit by a 757, but there's no video because it would prove that the 757 was being remote controlled. We'll never know until everyone involved is forced to tell the truth about what happened. And we all know that those in power don't have to answer to us lowlifes. This precedent was set when Reagan couldn't seem to recall a damn thing he did in office that might have been illegal, but he had no problems remembering the things he did that he believed to be legal and good.
Could Bush have come up with 9/11? Hell no! Could Cheney? Oh yeah! And since Bush could have pardoned any involvement by Cheney, it never mattered. Why was Cheney such a shadowy figure for the past eight years? He's the only VP that's been that way. And you can't discount the fact that he looks like a Batman villain...
"Why can't you people get along and say the government and the conspiracy nuts are both right?" -- My thoughts exactly. I'm not saying the conspiracy nuts are on the ball... they do a lot of theorizing that is just plain wacky. But so is taking the official story as fact when some things just don't add up.
"What should the damage have looked like?" -- Search Google and Youtube for this and you'll find plenty of well thought out information. Basically the hole in the building is much smaller than the plane and there isn't a scratch where the massive engines would have hit. That's just my summary, though. See for yourself.
As for foreign media, my comment was based on many random people I meet abroad telling me they've heard about this stuff. When this first started happening I was shocked since I had never heard these theories and so I engaged them on the topic. Now it's a matter of routine for me and every time I find people abroad to be much more aware of these issues.
Being an American, the idea that there might be something shady going on in this really upsets me, so I spent a long time researching the theories and reading everything I can on both sides. Much of it just can never be known. But something is definitely not right.
Again, it's not like one side is right and one side is wrong, I'm just noting an imbalance of genuine consideration of some of the outstanding issues. Would be great if people would actually consider the other ideas and not summarily dismiss them.
