RCN's Super Bowl Fail at Manhattan High-Rise

2009_01_rcnp.jpg Yesterday, residents at East 95th Street apartment building The Highgate got a super annoyance as they tried to tune into Super Bowl coverage: Their cable service from RCN conked out. One resident told WCBS 2, "I called them around 1 when the picture was going in and out every few minutes, and they told me it would clear up within two hours." But when 6 p.m. rolled around, his "reception was completely shot, with pixelated video cutting out or pausing practically every three seconds." Another neighbor lamented her failed party, "I'm filled with the rage of a thousand suns, actually. It ruined my party and I made chili and everyone I know came over and now they left and I think I might not have friends anymore." RCN told them they might not have a technician to the building until Wednesday, so they'll have to stick to DVDs in the meantime.

Well, if you use phrases like I am filled with the rage of a thousand suns, you might say your friendships were tenuous at best in the first place.

Lol, agreed. Hyperbole like that makes me want to dunk her head in the homemade chilli.

People are so stupid these days. Haven't they heard of "over the air" broadcast?!? No wonder he won't have friends anymore...

Yeah, sue comcast now...

I know right? just break out the rabbit ears. I was watching the first quarter at a starbucks on my portable laptop in crystal clear HD. People were stopping, going "how did you get that picture?" It's been on the news for fucking 2 years! It's amazing how many people don't know you can get free HD.

My RCN was fine on sunday. Its amazing how fast this got to the news stations, whiny white people work fast

Stop talking like a suicide bomber and go to a bar to watch it.....Jesus

that's right, She made chili and now she might think she won't have any friends because the cable was out.
the more we rely on tech the more this may happen.

If your friendships are based on the communal watching of network stations on cable, it might be time to find new friends.

Jen's comment FTW.

Who the hell says "rage of a thousand suns"?

Related—Diane to Sam, in Cheers, "I hate you with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns!!"

"Intensity of a thousand suns" make some sense. Suns have intensity, and a thousand of them would be very intense. "Rage of a thousand suns?" No. Suns don't have rage.

The TV writers win over the TV viewer in this one.

Shakespeare said it first. Or, more exactly, Katherine from Taming of the Shrew.

"Brighter than a thousand suns". From a 1950s hydrogen bomb test. And she wasn't. And her chili wasn't 'hotter than a thousand suns' either. And her rage is whiny white rage which burns hotter than a deviled egg, barely.

In these tough economic times, who can afford cable anymore? Take the elevator downstairs, then go to the nearest frat boy bar and go fuck yourself...

I had a similar issue with Time Warner around the BCS Bowls...FOX never came in for more than a second at a time, all pixelated.

You call them up and of course they ask you to unplug your box and try again.

"You call them up and of course they ask you to unplug your box and try again."

I start every call with Time Warner by saying "I've unplugged everything and waited 10 minutes and it's still doing this..."

I have to unplug Time Warner a lot because the onscreen tv guide goes out a lot. I check for a program and it will say "No data"

I guess all her friends are stupid too. Not one of them recommended the Rabbit ears? I hope everyone switches to Over the Air transmissions, and we can hurt these cable companies were it hurts - their wallets. They had horrible service, treat customers like crap, and get increasingly expensive.

What did she do with all the leftover chili? Freeze it? I would sue RCN.

"and everyone I know came over" ? Is there like a rough count? Is it in the hundreds, or is it in the count on one hand and still have some digits left over realm?

CABLEVISION in brooklyn went out 20min into the game....
and naver came back ;(

we moved the party, booze and wings to a back up location.
