Bad idea snow pants! That giant, steep slope you see being erected on the Manhattan side of the East River will host professional riders this week...but Curbed (via Fast Company) is reporting they may leave it open for amateurs, too: "My sources at Red Bull tell me it might stay up and be open to city rippers throughout the winter!" Upon completion this thing is going to be 90 feet high with a "specially constructed kicker toward an immense 80-foot long hip" and a "massive 45-degree spine," according to the experts. We contacted the company to see if this was true, and to remind them of the litigious society we live in, but they only told us "no comment." Which isn't a denial! Get ready to sign one gnarly release form, New York!

"to remind them of the litigious society we live in" Really do you think some irresponsible person who has never been down a slope is double dog dared to try and ends up as a quadriplegic would sue?
On a second note I passed by JJ Walker Park in the Village and I thought they flooded the park to be an ice skating rink. It wasn't, but it would be a great idea to flood the artificial turf parks and open them up for ice skating. Pier 40 would be perfect for such an exercise.
they should point the ramp to the east river. If I were 75 with pancreatic cancer this shit would be the most awesome way to die
This could be a great revenue builder for NYC!
Bring the gitmo jihadis here, set up bleachers, pen in some sharks in the east river at the base, and throw the terorists down the slide!
Bravo bH and jped. This is the kind of creative and forward thinking ideas that the city needs. It could also raise needed revenue for the city.
Look at how much the Romans made when they opened their new sports venue back in AD 80. And to think those guys built that without union labor and jewish financiers in only eight years without going over budget.
"Look at how much the Romans made when they opened their new sports venue back in AD 80"
Because we know America is as bad as imperial Rome, right?
I mean, all the successful black athletes are just gladiaters and the musicians are just court jester/slaves, working for "da man". (Jewish agents, right?)
"And to think those guys built that without union labor and jewish financiers in only eight years without going over budget."
Hot tip for you: Rome destroyed and looted Israel, took the gold from the Temple and used some some of it to, yes, build the Coliseum (look up "Arch of Titus").
I love that not one person, oh wait, only one person, managed to muster a comment about the event or the sport.
I'd bet you're all highly specialized urban dwellers who wouldn't even have the balls to snowplow down that in- ramp.
Get out more and live life, losers.
Snoopydog you're right, no one who would hit that jump would ever sue the city. These are the kinds of dudes/kids who go to skate parks and grew up with cool parents. Not self important ass-blowers who live on west 78 st and have little monster kids; they would sue, without a doubt.
This would be great as a toboggan run.
I hope this guy shows up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09r_quUkImo
I can't wait to cut some ropes and take the back trails. But There is a danger of avalanche...
