Idiotarod '09 is Over

Another Idiotarod has come to an end, kids. The race began around 11:30 a.m. at the East 60th Street heliport and ended sometime around 3 p.m. in Greenpoint, with an after party and awards ceremony held at Public Assembly in Williamsburg. Did you run in (or run into) the race today? Here's our coverage from earlier, as the carts made their way to the finish line. If you have any photos, tag them with "Gothamist" on Flickr, we'll be adding photos as they come in.

UPDATE: The Daily News reports that there was a Flight 1549 themed team which included runners covered in goose feathers. Despite having their own Sullenberger, however, they didn't win. Coming out on top were the Mercenary Bakers and Romulus and Remus.

Not everyone made it to the end, or made friends with the NYPD, according to the paper, "Cops made 15 arrests for disorderly conduct, public urination and possession of a controlled substance."

Since when did the NYPD start wearing yellow vests?

Jake, you are a great photographer! thanks for the cool photos.

Cheers!

Were there any headbusting by the NYPD?

And yet if you try to assemble in public to make a political point you will get fucked with in NYC.

This just in: The Idiotarod has just landed a major corporate sponsor. Massengill.

Is this the Metrosexual Mardi Gras?

The grumping here is pretty funny. I guess it's part of the event.

Newsflash: the grumping here is never ending. Once in a while I check in to soak up the general nastiness, but a steady diet of this is excruciating, not funny.

My Idiotarod pix can be seen here:

I will also continue to upload more photos to this set the next few days.

And I will, of course, ignore the lame potshots above from hipsters who wish they were cool enough to attend.

That's me in the heels, I did it for the Sparks. SAVE SPARKS!!
:-)
and if anyone knows who dropped me on my head at the end resulting in my black eye, tell him he owes me a drink.
