Giants' Jacobs: With Plax, We'll Be in Super Bowl XLIV

2009_01_bjaob.jpg Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who will be a free agent, said he plans on being back with the team next season—and promised big things if Plaxico Burress is re-signed as well. Repeating a refrain he had after the Giants were kicked out out the playoffs, Jacobs said, "If we have Plax on our team, we go 15-1 and we win the Super Bowl. I'm not afraid to say that, and I'll say it to anybody on any team." He's not sore about Burress's off-field actions, either, "You can't judge him for what happened because no one really knows what goes on out in those streets. A lot of people don't know anything about what happens or how targeted we are. The guy's not a criminal. He shot himself, he didn't shoot no one else and I think they should get off of his case and [he should] be able to continue his career."

I'm having found memories from one of Michael Vick's teammates telling the media it wasn't a big deal if he had dog fights on his property. This legal scholar had to be told by the reporter it's against Federal and state law.

"The guy's not a criminal"

Except for that whole illegally carrying an unregistered gun thing. The dumbest part of which is that seemingly almost every celeb in NYC has a carry permit: Trump (and both of his sons), Imus, DeNiro, Keitel, countless pro athletes (I read that the Mets' Shawn Green was turned down, but he's clearly not enough of a star). The NYPD wants to keep guns out of the hands only of anyone who's not famous or a multimillionaire. All Burress would have had to do was go through the hassle of filing an application.

Anyway, I think Plaxico's team has a great chance of winning. Go Mean Machine!

Hmmm...not exactly. Most(well, a lot) pro-athletes have permits to own, not carry. It's actually fairly difficult in NYC to get a carry permit. You have to demonstrate that *proper cause* exists for the permit to be issued. So, you can't just get a carry permit because you want one. You need to show you have a legitimate reason to want to be able to carry a gun.

Hmmmm... Every person that jaycjay listed has a license to carry a gun, so to say that most pro-athletes have a license to own and not carry a gun is a little tangential (countless is a pretty subjective word). While it is hard for a regular citizen to get a license to own and carry (and also prohibitively expensive for many), I think that jaycjay's point was that if you are rich and famous you have a better chance of getting a permit to own or carry.

Burress lives in NJ. In order to get a permit to own or carry in NYC, you have to live in NY, no matter who you are.

It was a stupid thing to do. thanks Plax, you cost the Giants the Superbowl.

"because no one really knows what goes on out in those streets." I guess not. The only people that really do know are the over paid circus clowns that wear numbers on their shirts and run all over the place from the late summer to the beginning of the next year.

Why can't these people act more like basketball players?

Couldn't these sports-related items be grouped separately in their own section? Somewhere waaaaaaaay in the back, you know, like near the restrooms.

Where they belong.

Not a criminal? I think this fine upstanding role model and his teammate should broadcast to the planet why Plax is not a shithead for carrying a concealed illegal weapon @ a nightclub.

Too dangerous in the city? Stay home fuckhead and listen to music on your ipod. Or go play for KC. What an asshole.

This is the first time I've ever heard Brandon Jacobs say anything, and I must say I liked it better when I just knew him as the Giants' non-talkative above average running back.

Back in the old days, just being on the Giants was reason enough for people to believe you were a stand up guy. Even Lawrence Taylor, who was a blatant crackhead, never let it affect his game or his attitude...hell, maybe it made him better a better player. In recent years the team has had a series of douchebag flops, from the fantastically talented but chronically injured Jason Sehorn to Jeremy Shockey to Plaxico. They're turning in the Yankees.

I'm probably biased being a Pats fan. But...

He shot himself!

I'd like Jacobs to keep reminding anyone who'll listen that Plax shot himself!

Athletes...
