Dark Knight Back in IMAX, But Some Screens are Much Less MAX

013009the_dark_knight06.jpg Internet guru and Videogum blogger Gabriel Delahaye is rightfully pissed that the AMC Empire 25 multiplex in Times Square is screening The Dark Knight re-release in IMAX on a rather dainty screen: "The Times Square IMAX is just a regular movie screen, except that there’s an illuminated IMAX sign hanging above the door to the theater. Perfect. And you only want 6 extra dollars for the privilege of seeing a movie here?" An IMAX rep tells us the screen there is 29 feet high by 58 feet wide, which is dwarfed by the 80 feet high screen at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square IMAX. To clarify, a movie can be projected in IMAX onto various-sized screens, and other local multiplexes such as Kips Bay will soon get the IMAX "experience" on smaller screens. (The largest IMAX screen is in Sydney, Australia: 96.5 feet high and 117 feet wide.) So know before you go; if you want to see The Dark Knight in all its large-scale glory, 1998 Broadway at 68th Street is the place to be. And that concludes today's Geek Report!

That sucks, since parts of TDK were actually filmed using IMAX (in contrast to other films, which are filmed 'normally' and then digitally converted to IMAX).

Lincoln Square is where I saw it and although it was a good movie, it was a poor excuse for a Batman movie. Cue Joel Schumacher...

You might want to mention that 'the nation's largetst imax theater' is right in our own back yard at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. The helicopter ride through Manhattan bit will make you toss your cookies. :-)

Does Syndey live in Sydney, Australia??

I saw TDK IMAX at the Lincoln Square screen last Sunday, but they fucked it up, with the lights going up and the goodbye greeting being played in one of the most beautiful scenes. I got a cash refund after demanding one from customer service, and we all got return passes.

Am I the only one who doesn't enjoy seeing movies in IMAX? The screen is so huge you're constantly looking up. If you want one of the good seats you have to get there at least an hour early. Oh and it's more money. No thanks.

It's imperative that you sit as far back as possible. I always get there early and try to snag seats in the absolute last row.

i saw bolt in "imax" 3d at amc empire, i was so damn pissed that they have the nerve to call it imax & charge more. what a bunch of a-holes. i hate going to that theater. they have the worse crowds.

Anthem Statement separates, Paradigm Reference speakers, twin JL Audio subwoofers, Projection Design projector with Panamorph anamorphic lens, 133" 2.40:1 Black Diamond screen, and of course plenty of BluRay... No wonder I have no interest in commercial theaters any longer!
