Yesterday, the Suffolk County DA's office said that a group of teens, already charged with fatally beating a Hispanic man to death last November, had been on a 13-month-long "hate spree," targeting and terrorizing Latinos. DA Thomas Spota said, "All of the defendants participated in what we consider to be a violent and racially driven pastime" and Newsday detailed some of the crimes:
Last July, at least two of the teens beat a Hispanic man unconscious, stealing his money and shoes.Five of the teens, Christopher Overton, Jose Pacheco, Nicholas Hausch, Jordan Dasch and Anthony Hartford "pleaded not guilty to a slew of second-degree robbery, assault, gang assault or hate crime charges." Two others, Kevin Shea and Jeffrey Conroy, will be arraigned next week. The Suffolk DA's office also believes more teens were involved with the racially motivated assaults; Spota said, "There is a lot of work still to be done to ensure the safety of all the people who choose to call Suffolk County home.”In December, three of them harassed and menaced a lone Hispanic man with a pipe, telling him, "You're dead."
In June, several of the teens pinned still another man to the ground, beating him and lunging at his stomach with a knife, slicing his belt, pants and skin.
After Ecuadorian immigrant Marcello Lucero's death in November, the authorities interviewed a number of men who claimed they were victims of hate crimes by teens. Overton's lawyer, thought, said the prosecutors were "just piling on. I think they're just trying to clear every unsolved crime here involving a Hispanic complainant." The Suffolk County police have been accused of ignoring the pattern of assaults, spurring a federal inquiry. And Newsday reported that when some victims told the police of being attacked by teens, the cops allegedly refused to do anything, saying, "You're men, they're kids."

when I meet people from LI they often seem a few degrees more racist than people from other places..not surprising when you consider Long Island was in large part populated with white flight families leaving the city a generation ago...these people need to evolve already
Is it official that Long Island trash is worse than Jersey trash? I love being a high-minded, arrogant New Yorker that hates on white trash in Middle America, but our trash is truly disgusting as well.
@dsdsdsdsdsadaaa, I'd have to agree with your comment. Although they don't fit the typical mold, many a Long Islanders are the unabashed, flag waving patriot types who are very close minded and unwavering in their hatred of all things not like them.

Some places like Brockton Massachussetts, or North Plainfield, New Jersey, seem to be Cauldrons of the Devil, Boiling pots of Hatred. And you can count many Racial Murder in those towns, and in recent years.

These guys really look "gangsta" I used to work as a NYC Law Enforcement Officer and I take what cops label people as with a grain of salt. I would think even less of what the Suffolk County PD would label anyone as. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying no crime was committed, I am saying, people, this does not look like a hate crime. It looks like a bunch of unsupervised stupid youth, crime. But I only know as much as you and the people who put this out on the blog know. Which is precious little info and much, much sensationalizing. I suppose because there is this obviously hispanic kid running around with all these WASP; let's see Dasch, and Haurch both names are of German origing Dasch/Tasch, Hausch/Huso, and there in the middle the Old English historically prominent name of Hartford/Heorot that can also be traced to Dutch early settlers. Those three made bail, poor hispanic Pacheco didn't, as well as Overton, another common but less prominent Old English name Overton/Oferra, Uferra.
OK, so what did you say qualify these stupid kids as Gangsta? Obviously they are not White Supremacist, that kid Pacheco just wouldn't fit in. Hummm, no tattoo's crystal meth, body art piercing's etc. Hummm, could it be the SCPD just sensationalized this to justify their high salaries? I don't know, but it does certainly appear these kids are suffering from too much exposure to Fox 5 news propaganda! And that's my opinion.
