Torre's Book Goes High and Tight on Old Aces

2009_01_torre.jpg Some more choice quotes were revealed today from Joe Torre's upcoming memoir titled "The Yankee Years." The Daily News highlighted some of the former manager's blunt takes on members of his starting rotation throughout the years. While not shockingly calling Kevin Brown "a beaten man...with emotional issues," he then compares him to David Wells by saying, "The difference between (them) is that both make your life miserable, but David Wells meant to." He describes poor outings where Randy Johnson "freaked out" afterward and says that all the players "hated Carl Pavano." Torre is scheduled to talk about the book on Larry King Live this Friday and today told the Times, "I’m probably going to get more credit or more blame than I deserve, whichever way you want to look at it.” The News's Mike Lupica champions the book today calling it "tough opinions, but honest ones" and discouraging Torre "from taking a single step back."

Good for Joe! You notice we're not hearing anything he's said bad about other teams he coached. I wonder why. No, I take that back. I don't wonder why, I know why. The Yankees suck! The organization has done nothing but destroy the game while financially burdening the taxpayers of this great city. Does a team really need a payroll as high as theirs to win the World Series? I think the Marlins proved you don't when they beat the Yankees in 2003. Do they need a new stadium? HELL NO! Do they need to fall apart and drift away, only to be read about in the history books? HELL YES!

How could they hate Pavano? The only thing he did was watch the games from St. Pete. for the yankees.

The Pavano thing, at least, seems to have been true... because Torre's not the first to have said it.

I love Joe for doing what he's doing and I also like Yogi Berra's take on the situation, "I didn't really say everything I said."

  • I'd love for David Wells for call into Larry King's show!
