Torah Thief Yahweh Uncool

012709torah.jpg A Torah scroll worth $50,000 was stolen from a rented SUV in Crown Heights yesterday, the Post reports. 21-year-old Levi Havosha says he had just returned from vacation with members of the B'Nai Avraham Synagogue in Brooklyn Heights, and decided to leave the Torah in his vehicle overnight and bring it back to the synagogue in the morning. But when he returned the next day, he found the window smashed and the hand-inked Torah scroll missing. Havosha is praying for the Torah's return, and he also wants to make sure the culprits are aware what they've gotten themselves into: "You're not messing with people anymore, you're messing with God."

    Is this your homework, Levi?

  • JacqueMehoff

    any description of the perp?

  • RevWaldo

This shows the potential benefits of interfaith scholarship. Muhammad is said to have told a Bedouin - who put his trust in God that his camel wouldn't wander off - "Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah."

I bet that Torah is now on ebay. There's a robust black market for Torahs in places like Zurich and Beirut. Few, if any of them are ever repatriated and in some slums outside Cairo, you can see the spent rollers of hundreds of Torahs alongside passed out teens.

If he only posted a "No Torah" sign in the window..

Is that headline yiddish or lolspeak?

  • handsomedevil

OK, I finally got the headline. It's a play on "way uncool." (At first I was thinking "hella uncool.") Maybe draw it out like yahwaaaay uncool.

This happens every few years. Who buys these? They must be hotter than a stolen Rembrandt.

Felix thanks for saying what needed to be said. True True True.....

"the apartment was not deemed sacred enough for the torah" HUH? But the back seat of an unheated rented SUV is?

  • Dirk

What a bone-headed move... leaving the Torah in a car overnight in Crown Heights. Yeah, that's a good idea. Levi is a moron.

  • RooseveltIsland360

I heard on the news that one of the reasons this kid did not bring the torah into his apartment was that the apartment was not deemed sacred enough for the torah to sit there overnight. If that was the case other arrangemnets should have been made.

For this kid to believe that a visible back seat of a car would be safe enough (even if in a suitcase) shows he was too dumb to be trusted with the torah.

This is very unfortunate but for this kid to be claiming the high morale ground is a bit incredulous.

Wonder what God's gonna say about this Levi's HORRIBLE decision making?

  • Felix Hoenikker

Perhaps it was God who took it back. I heard he's pissed about the whole baby-killing in Gaza thing.

Nah, God is fine with baby-killing. It's all in the Bible.

I'm guessing that someone is rolling nice joints with the Torah paper.

  • Felix Hoenikker

Good point....perhaps it was these two:
